CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter contains the Introduction, Statement of the Problem, Scope and Delimitation
of the Study, Assumptions, Significance of the Study, Conceptual Framework/Research
Paradigm, and Operational Definition of Terms/Variable.
INTRODUCTION
One of the problems now is that our covid pandemic has come. One of the things that has
affected them is the students because many have struggled and adjusted to them., grades can also
cause frustration and anxiety, especially in students whose academic performance may have
“suffered” due to factors that are out of their control. The advantages of online learning include
flexibility and self-paced learning, lower costs, improved virtual communication and
collaboration, better time management, refined critical thinking skills and new technical skills.
Online is not easier than the traditional educational process. In fact, many students will say it
requires much more time and commitment. The online learning process is normally accelerated
and requires commitment on the student’s part. Staying up with the class and completing all
work on time is vital. Once a student gets behind, it is almost impossible to catch up. Basically,
the student needs to want to be there, and needs to want the experience. The instructor may have
to contact students personally to offer assistance and remind the student of the need to keep up.
Just as many excellent instructors may not be effective online facilitators, not all students
possess the necessary qualities to perform well online. In your online course, you may want to
include reference links to resources and tips for your students to use to help them be more
successful online learners. Clearly outline your expectations and the necessary characteristics of
a successful online student so your students can understand if the online environment will be a
productive learning environment for them. Provide a questionnaire for prospective students to fill
out to assess whether they are good candidates for online learning. Universities are increasingly
turning to online or blended formats to teach required courses. Although offering university
courses online provides a number of benefits both to students, who can take courses even from
remote locations with the flexibility of studying according to their own schedules, and to
universities, which can serve more students without having to physically house the courses,
online education also brings its own set of challenges. In particular, online learning often results
in significantly higher student attrition than face-to-face education. As online learning is
growing, institutions and instructors have become more interested in knowing what factors
influence students’ learning and satisfaction in online learning environments. This becomes more
important for them when the results of studies show high dropout rates and lower retention in
online courses than in face-to-face traditional courses. Most of these studies used Perkin’s
control-value theory of achievement emotions to assess the role of emotions in academic
contexts. According to the theory, students experience various emotions in academic settings that
can be grouped based on their valence (positive and negative), degree of activation (activating
and deactivating), and object focus (activity-related and outcome related). Students’ emotions
influence their learning and achievement through cognitive and motivational mechanisms. The
control-value theory asserts that individual characteristics, task demands and learning
environments influence students’ perception of control and value appraisals, which, in turn,
predict their emotions. Much of what is known about the role of achievement emotions in
academic settings comes from research with students and teachers participating in traditional
face-to-face classrooms. Researchers are just beginning to examine the role of students’
emotions in online learning environments. Daniels and Stupnisky reviewed nine studies that
bused control-value theory of achievement emotions as a theoretical framework to study
emotions in online learning environments and concluded that the theory is applicable to online
learning environments. The results of these studies indicate that positive emotions such as
enjoyment have a positive effect while negative emotions such as boredom have negative effects
on students’ performance and self-regulated learning behaviors. On the other hand, other studies
in online learning have demonstrated that the nature of online courses forces students to regulate
and manage their time, efforts, and motivation to be successful and satisfied. Therefore, in order
to understand the role of emotions in students’ self-regulation, learning and performance, it is
important to identify the antecedents of these emotions in order to be able to design effective
online learning environments that promote positive emotional experiences, which in turn will
increase students’ learning and satisfaction.
The purpose of this study was to better understand the instructional and assessment strategies
that are most effective in the online learning environment. Faculty and students identified several
strategies for maintaining instructional quality in the online environment, including the
importance of using a variety of instructional methods to appeal to various learning styles and
building an interactive and cohesive learning environment that includes group work. Online
assessment strategies include having a wide variety of clearly explained assignments on a regular
basis and providing meaningful and timely feedback to students regarding the quality of their
work. Effective assessment techniques include projects, portfolios, self-assessments, peer
evaluations, and weekly assignments with immediate feedback. The role of meaningful feedback
cannot be overemphasized
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study will determine the Satisfaction of Students on the online method of Instruction at
MPCF, Canaman Under New Normal. Aiming to identify the Capacity, Strategic Plan, and
outcome.
This study aims to determine the rate of environmental awareness and factors affecting the
environmental awareness of BSMT 2nd Year Students regard with their gender differences
Specifically, the study sought answers to the following questions,
1. What are the profiles of the respondents?
2. How effective is online class base on student’s experience?
3. How can this study enhance the online learning of students’ in MPCF?
4. What factors affects Students level of satisfaction?
5. What are the pros and cons of online class?
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY
This study was conducted to determine the level of the Satisfaction of Students on the online
method of Instruction at MPCF, Canaman Under New Normal. of BSMT 2nd Year Students
The study is limited only to assess the Satisfaction of Students on the online method of
Instruction at MPCF, Canaman Under New Normal.
The primary data were obtained from the available college students of MPCF –
CANAMAN through online survey with the use of Google forms questioner’s as the data
gathering instrument. Only the 2nd year college of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation
programs students are the main focus in this research.
BASIC ASSUMPTIONS
As online learning is growing, institutions and instructors have become more interested in
knowing
what factors influence students’ learning and satisfaction in online learning environments. This
becomes more important for them when the results of studies show high dropout rates and lower
retention in online courses than in face-to-face traditional courses. A review of the literature in
this field indicates that researchers have used different methods to define and assess students’
satisfaction such as students’ final grades, course completion rates students’ attitudes toward
online classes, and students’ self-reports of satisfaction.
Identifying the survey results that the college students submitted about the environmental
awareness/issue is useful in determining the effective way or strategies that can be adopted in the
teaching and learning processes to ensure that the students are getting the necessary knowledge
about the Satisfaction of Students on the online method.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The researchers believe that the result of this study is relevant and beneficial to the
following:
School Administration. The result of this study could serve as a baseline data to
improve programs for school advancement and big help to fulfill their research agenda.
Facilitators. The result of this study may serve as an eye opener to create and innovates
instructional materials, and use varied and appropriate teaching strategies.
Students. This study will help the students to develop their interest in the environment
and the initiative to change their mindsets.

school performance in different discipline.
Future Researchers. The result of this study can serve as basis for further study on
environmental issues and students environmental awareness.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
