ELEMENTS OF SPAS
(Relax) HELPS TO DE-STRESS
Visiting a spa is a fantastic way to relax and de-stress. A visit to the spa offers a great
opportunity to separate yourself from life’s everyday stressors and have some precious ‘me
time’. Allowing yourself this time to wind down and relax has so many additional benefits, such
as a clear mind and increased productivity once you leave your treatment!
(Reflect) HELPS WITH ANTI-AGEING
Meditation can even help slow the effects of aging
Many spa treatments can actually help with anti-ageing. Facials are known to help delay and
prevent the onset of wrinkles by stimulating skin cells and hydrating the skin. Additionally,
generally giving yourself time to relax and de-stress is a great anti-ageing technique in itself! It
can be hard to afford the time for relaxation day-to-day, but assigning yourself some time to do
so at the spa can be extremely advantageous.
TYPES OF SPAS
Day Spas
Luxurious stretch of time in which to indulge, most day spas offer single treatments ranging from
30 minutes to two or more hours. This allows you to pop in for a quick wax or facial in your
lunch break, or combine several therapies for the ultimate pamper package. So this means it is
not offering any accommodations.
Spa Hotels
A spa that is located in or on the grounds of a hotel or resort. It is quite common for upscale
resorts and beach front hotels to have spas where guests can enjoy a number of services and
beauty treatments. The most common services that are offered on hotel spa menus are massages,
manicures, pedicures, and facials. Depending on the facility, hotel spas may also come equipped
with steam rooms and saunas for guests to enjoy between treatments.
It is common for a hotel spa to allow guests to book treatments in their rooms instead of in the
spa. In fact, some hotel spas are quite small and conduct most of the services in guest rooms or
suites rather than in dedicated rooms within the spa facilities. For treatments that are conducted
within a hotel room, the massage therapist, esthetician, or nail technician will bring all necessary
supplies to the guest's hotel room. Some hotel spas also offer hair care and have beauticians on
hand who can take care of guests who need to have their hair cut, colored, or styled.
Medical Spas
A medical spa is a hybrid between a medical clinic and a day spa. Medical spas operate under the
supervision of a medical doctor. While visiting a medical spa, patients are able to be pampered
with traditional spa services but also have the options of medical spa services such as lasers,
botox, and fillers.
Medical spas, sometimes referred to as medi-spas or medspas, seek to combine some medical
procedures normally performed in a doctor’s office with the experience of a day spa.
There is a particular focus on anti-aging treatments. Indeed, now medical spas can offer non-
surgical anti-aging treatments that were once performed only at a doctor’s practice. However, in
some jurisdictions there is a requirement that medical spas be owned and operated by a qualified
physician.
Holistic Spas
The techniques used in a holistic spa are linked with generations old healing treatments. These
spas are therapeutic baths containing strong herbs and body scrubs to massage your body.
