CE EL. 3- PRESTRESS
(FINAL EXAMINATION)
INSTRUCTION : 5 pts. Each. Show your solution.
1.)Find the safe liveload that the prestressed section could carry if it has a simole span of 6 m. The wires used are
stress relieved tendons with fpu= 1350 MPa and fse= 760MPa. Fc’ = 35 MPa .The prestressed beams is not to be grouted
after the application of the prestress. Aps=1000mm2 .

2.)The beam shown is prestressed by using a bonded ( stress relieved tendons) with an fpu= 1350 MPa.If fc’=
35 MPa, determine the safe ultimate moment capacity of the beam. Aps= 1000 mm2.
3.)Find the safe ultimate resisting moment that the section shown could carry if the tendons are placed at
10 cm above the bottom of the beam having a simple span of 8 m. The area of the cable wires (tendons) is
9.60 cm.sq. which is prestressed to a stress of 12,500 Kg/ cm2, fc’= 350 kg/cm2, fs’= 16,000 kg/cm2. The
thickness of web member is 12 cm. and a flange width of 50 cm which has a thickness of 8 cm overall deoth of
section is 60 Cm.
4.) A T-shaped prestressed concrete beam, with a detailed section is shown in the figure. The area of the
wires is 9.5 cm2 located 10 cm from the bottom. If the average strength of concrete is 300 kg/cm2 and the
wires are stressed to its ultimate strength of 16,000 kg/cm2, determine the ultimate resisting moment of the
beam.

5.) Refers to problem # 4 . Compute the maximum (ultimate) unit of live load in Kg/m it can carry if the
distance between its supports is 12 meters, weight of concrete is 2400 kg per cubic meter.
