How To Import Satellite image from Google Earth to ArcGIS
There are serval steps followed to import satellite image from Google Earth to ArcGIS. These
steps are discussed below one by one.
Step No.1:
Open Google Earth in desktop .
Step No.2:
When Google Earth once opens insert a location (of which you want to take image) in search
box (In the top of the left-hand panel).
Step No.3:
When once the location is entered in search box press enter or left click on search option.
Earth will zoom into that location on the map.

Step No 4.
Go to the icon bar above the map and click Save Image . When you’re finished editing the
map’s info, click Save Image. The easy way to save an image of the location is to take
screenshot of the location by using snipping tool.
After following all the above steps, the image is saved in your PC (it depends on you where
you want to save the image) it’s useful to save the image in folder which is connected to
ArcGIS.
Step No.5
Open ArcMap. Click Add Data button .
2
Step No.6:
Click the Look in drop-down arrow and navigate to the GIS Servers folder. Scroll the list and
double-click the server you want to use.
Step No.7:
Click the image service, which appears as the following icon: .
3
Step No 8:
Click Add.
When once we complete all the above steps the image appears on ArcMap interface.

Georeferencing of a satellite image in ArcMap
Georeferencing is the name given to the process of transforming a scanned map or aerial
photograph so it appears “in place” in GIS. Georeferencing requires a spatially referenced
dataset that will be used to provide locations on the scanned map with their associated
coordinates.
Serval steps required for georeferencing of an image.
Step No.1:
In Google Earth, search the location of your interest in search box and zoom in to the desired
map extent.
Step No.2:
Add at least four placemarks within the extent as ground control points, and note the latitude
and longitude coordinates of each placemark (best way is to note in excel sheet).
5
Step No.3:
Save the Google Earth map as an image. The image above from excel sheet shows a Google
Earth image with four placemarks created as ground control points.
Step No.4:
Now open ArcGIS and set the coordinate system to WGS 1984. For selecting coordinate
system click on view and then click on Data Frame Properties. After that click on coordinate
system then select Geographic Coordinate System and then scroll down and click on world
and then scroll down and select WGS 1984 and then click apply and ok.

Step No.5:
Add the Google Earth image to ArcGIS.
Step No.6:
georeferenced the image by entering the latitude and longitude coordinates of all the ground
control points. For entering latitude and longitude first tick on Georeferencing in toolbar then
Georeferencing appears on the interface of ArcGIS. In Georeferencing click on Add Control
Points.
Now zoom the placemark 1 and left click on the placemark bottom and then right click And
now click “input X and Y” in X enter the longitude (from excel sheet) of placemark 1 and in
Y enter the latitude (from excel sheet) of placemark 1 and do this for all four placemarks.
