A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Teaching Grammar

I. Objectives
At the end of the 40-minutes lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Identify when each punctuation marks and capitalization is needed.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the lesson through making their own story
dialogue using and emphasizing the correct usage of capitalize letters and
punctuation marks.
3. Show patience and appreciate the importance of the proper usage of each
punctuation marks and capitalization.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Use appropriate marks and capitalization to convey meaning
Values: Develop attention to detail in mastering the subject, cooperation, healthy
competition, cleanliness and unity.

IV. Lesson Procedure


A. Pre-lesson Activities
a) Preliminaries:
1. The teacher welcomes the students and instructs them to clear their tables
of all unwanted items.
2. After the students have cleaned their area, the teacher asks them take their
seats and have their own short silent prayer in honor of their various faiths.

b) Motivation
1. The instructor will begin a flashcard game in which students must
recognize the names of the symbols on the cards and include at least one
sentence using the appropriate punctuation mark.
2. The teacher begins another set of flashcard game, this time focusing on
capitalization. The teacher will show a sample of things that need to be
capitalized, and a volunteered student will provide at least one sentence.

B. During Lesson
1. Start the lesson by specifying the goals needed to be learned for this lesson.
2. The teacher asks the students about their prior knowledge of punctuation marks
and capitalization.
3. Display a power point presentation that explains what punctuation marks and
capitalization are, as well as how and when we use them.
4. Using the students' responses/sample sentences from the flash card game, the
teacher highlights common mistakes that the students missed and helps them
understand the proper use of punctuation marks and when to capitalize a letter.
5. The teacher demonstrates common punctuation and capitalization errors to
students in order to increase their comprehension and awareness of the subject.
And show them how a single mistake can ruin or demeaning the entire
sentence's message.

C. Post-Lesson
The teacher assesses the students learning from the discussion. The students will be
given a task. Each student will make or write 10 sentences using correct capitalization
and punctuation marks.

D. Evaluation
Direction: Rewrite the following sentences using appropriate punctuation marks and
capital letters wherever necessary.

1. river yamuna flows through agra


2. eiffel tower is the most famous monument in france
3. my brother is a singer
4. where have you been all this while
5. you look hot are you ill
6. come here at once
7. rohan is a smart boy
8. sania couldnt believe her eyes when she saw the bicycle
9. india is the seventh largest country in the world
10. mumbai is the capital of maharashtra

E. Assignment
The teacher organizes a Story Dialogue Making Contest. The class will be divided
into equal groups. Their task is to write a short story while using/observing proper
punctuation and capitalization. Each party must have a leader, an editor, a reader, and a
designer. The group who uses the punctuation marks and capital letters correctly, has
creativity, and has cleanliness of their work will be declared as the winner. (Repeat the
instruction when necessary)
