QUALITY CONTROL
PROCEDURE AR – TB – CAL001
1- PURPOSE
This Procedure describes the requirements for the calibration of length measures, instruments,
densitometer and step wedge comparison film, and pressure gauges. For reference, see section 10 of
the Quality Control Manual.
2- CALIBRATION
The Steel Rule 1000 MM master shall be checked by the manufacturer or by external laboratory
every two years and shall be used for calibrating the production tapes. The production tapes shall
be calibrated every year .
The maximum allowed tolerances are :
± 1 mm for master rule.
± 1 mm/m for 3 to 5 meters tape.
± 5 mm for tapes over 5 meters. ,
The Production Pressure Gauges shall be calibrated using calibrated master gauge each test 6
month’s and is valid for three months. The master gauge shall be calibrated once a year by the
manufacturer or by external laboratory. At least four readings between zero and end of scale and
shall be checked in increasing and decreasing directions .
The maximum allowed tolerances are :
1 % end of scale for master pressure gauge.
2% end of scale for production pressure gauge.
The Production Temperature instrument shall be calibrated against master instrument once a year
The Master Temperature Instrument shall be calibrated by the manufacturer or by external
laboratory every two years .
The maximum allowed tolerances are:
± 2 °C for Master Instrument .
±10 °C for digital thermocouples. .
± 2°f for thermometer measuring temperature for impact test.
2-4-1 Densitometers. Densitometers shall be calibrated at least every 90 days during use as follows:
(a) A national standard step tablet or a step wedge calibration film, traceable to a national standard
step tablet and having at least 5 steps with neutral densities from at least 1.0 through 4.0, shall
be
used. The step wedge calibration film shall have been verified within the last year by
comparison
with a national standard step tablet.

QUALITY CONTROL CALIBRATION
PROCEDURE AR – TB – CAL001
(b) The densitometer manufacture’s step-by-step instruction for the operation of the densitometer
shall
be followed.
(c) The density steps closest to 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 on the national standard step tablet or step
wedge
Calibration film shall be read.
(d) The densitometer is acceptable if the density readings don’t vary by more than ± 0.05 density
units
from the actual density stated on the national standard step tablet or step wedge Calibration
film
2-4-2 step Wedge Calibration Film. step wedge comparison films shall be verified prior to first use,
unless
performed by the manufacturer, as follows:
(a) The density of the steps on a step wedge comparison film shall be verified by a calibrated
densit-
ometer.
(b) The step wedge comparison film is acceptable if the density readings don’t vary by more than ±
0.1 density units from the density stated on the step wedge comparison film
2-4-4 Documentation
(a) Densitometer calibration readings required by T-262.1 (c) shall be recorded in an appropriate
calibration log
. (b) Periodic verification readings required by T-262.3 do not have to be recorded.
PROCEDURE AR – TB – CAL001
2-8 Calipers
The Calipers shall be calibrated every year using external laboratory / the Standard block Gauges.
The calibration shall be performed with a minimum of three readings, one near zero ,one in the
middle of Caliper range and one near the end.
The maximum allowed tolerance is ± 0.1 mm.
2-9 Micrometers
The micrometers shall be calibrated every year using external laboratory / the Standard block
Gauges. The calibration shall be performed with a minimum of three readings, one near zero ,one
in
the middle of Caliper range and one near the end.
The maximum allowed tolerance is ± 0.1 mm.
2-10 Any equipment or instrument other than above ( such as alloy analyzer ,
magnetomet......etc,) Shall be calibrated as recommended by manufacturer instruction manual
and the values haven't undergone a significant change with original calibration values .
C -It is Q.C Manger responsibility to resolve the non-conformity as described in the Q.C.
Manual, Sec. 6.
5- CERTIFICATION
1- The certification shall include the following data:
B- Description and serial number of the standard used for calibration or calibrated against
nationally Traceable Standards ( NIS, NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR STANDARD )
Egypt.
C- Date of calibration and operator signature.
D- Date of calibration expire.
2- All the calibration of units listed in this procedure shall be carried out by the equipment manufacturers
or by external laboratory. in this case a certificate of calibration shall be issued by the calibrating
laboratory and shall be accepted by the Q.C Manger by signing and dating such certificates.
All Master Equipment shall be with calibration certificate accepted by Q.C Manger by signature.
