every two years and shall be used for calibrating the production tapes. The production tapes shall
be calibrated every year .
The maximum allowed tolerances are :
± 1 mm for master rule.
± 1 mm/m for 3 to 5 meters tape.
± 5 mm for tapes over 5 meters. ,

2-2 Pressure Gauges

The Production Pressure Gauges shall be calibrated using calibrated master gauge each test 6
month’s and is valid for three months. The master gauge shall be calibrated once a year by the
manufacturer or by external laboratory. At least four readings between zero and end of scale and
shall be checked in increasing and decreasing directions .
The maximum allowed tolerances are :
1 % end of scale for master pressure gauge.
2% end of scale for production pressure gauge.

The Master Temperature Instrument shall be calibrated by the manufacturer or by external
laboratory every two years .
The maximum allowed tolerances are:
± 2 °C for Master Instrument .
±10 °C for digital thermocouples. .
± 2°f for thermometer measuring temperature for impact test.

2-4 Densitometers and Step Wedge Film .

2-4-1 Densitometers. Densitometers shall be calibrated at least every 90 days during use as follows:
(a) A national standard step tablet or a step wedge calibration film, traceable to a national standard
step tablet and having at least 5 steps with neutral densities from at least 1.0 through 4.0, shall
be
used. The step wedge calibration film shall have been verified within the last year by
comparison
with a national standard step tablet.

SHEET 3 of 4
QUALITY CONTROL CALIBRATION
PROCEDURE AR – TB – CAL001

(b) The densitometer manufacture’s step-by-step instruction for the operation of the densitometer
shall
be followed.
(c) The density steps closest to 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 on the national standard step tablet or step
wedge
Calibration film shall be read.
(d) The densitometer is acceptable if the density readings don’t vary by more than ± 0.05 density
units
from the actual density stated on the national standard step tablet or step wedge Calibration
film

2-4-2 step Wedge Calibration Film. step wedge comparison films shall be verified prior to first use,
unless
performed by the manufacturer, as follows:
(a) The density of the steps on a step wedge comparison film shall be verified by a calibrated
densit-
ometer.
(b) The step wedge comparison film is acceptable if the density readings don’t vary by more than ±
0.1 density units from the density stated on the step wedge comparison film

2-4-3 Periodic Verification

(a) Densitometer. Periodic calibration verification checks shall be performed as described in T-

262.1
at the beginning of each shift, after 8 hr. of continuous use, or after change at apertures,
whichever
comes first. The densitometer is acceptable if the density readings are within ± 0.05 of the
calibration readings determined in T-262.1
(b) Step wedge comparison films. Verification checks shall be performed annually per T-262.2.

2-4-4 Documentation

(a) Densitometer calibration readings required by T-262.1 (c) shall be recorded in an appropriate
calibration log
. (b) Periodic verification readings required by T-262.3 do not have to be recorded.

2-5 Portable Hardness Tester

Portable Hardness Tester, shall be calibrated to give equivalent results to those of a standard
machine on a comparison test block of approximately the same hardness as the material to be
tested prior to each use. Test block must be in good condition. Calibration each time before use
according to tolerances stated at standard blocks attached acc. to manufacturer commendations.

2-6 Volt- Amp. Meters

A master Volt-Amp Meter shall be used to calibrate the production Volt-Amp Meter by
comparison readings and shall be calibrated every year by the manufacturer or by external
laboratory .At least four readings shall be checked. The allowed tolerance ± 7%. Of the reading
Production Volt-Amp Meter shall be calibrated every year and the allowed tolerance ± 10%.

2-7 Lifting Power of Yokes

The Magnetizing Force of yokes shall be checked at least once a year, or whenever a yoke has
been damaged . If a yoke has not been in use for a year or more, a check shall be done prior to
first use .Each alternating current electro magnetic yoke shall have a lifting power of at least 10 Ib
( 4.5 Kg ) at the maximum pole spacing that will be used. Each direct current or permanent
magnetic yoke shall have a lifting power of at least 40 Ib (18.1 Kg ) at the maximum pole
spacing that will be used. Each weight shall be weighted with a scale from a reputable
manufacturer and stenciled with the applicable nominal weight prior to first use .A weight need
only be verified again if damaged in manner that could have caused potential loss of material.
