Lp7-Motion in One Dimension

This lesson plan outlines a 7th grade science lesson on motion in one dimension that will take place over 4 class periods. The objectives are for students to describe motion in terms of speed or velocity, calculate average speed, and perform an activity demonstrating speed. Topics will include uniform speed. Activities include exploring speed using a boat they created, explaining concepts through guided questions, and evaluating speed through a game. Students will be assessed on their understanding of speed concepts.

Lesson Plan in Science, 7th Grade

November 26 & 29,January 6 & 8, Quarter 3

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
Objectives Goal/s Measurables
a. describe the motion of a-c. Exploration: Using the
object in terms of boat they created 85% of the
speed or velocity; students will describe, record
and calculate the speed of a
moving object.

b. calculate the average demonstrate an a. Explanation: 85% of the

speed of a moving understanding of motion in student will describe the
body.; and one dimension motion of object in term of
speed.
c. perform an activity that c. Elaboration: 85% of the
shows speed. students will perform the
activity and correctly answer
the given problems about
speed.

III. Procedure
A. Engagement
The students will describe the motion of three boys in the graph presented by the
teacher. Then, they have to identify who among the three is the fastest runner.

B. Exploration
The students will do the Activity 7.1 Uniform Speed page 211 on their book.

C. Explanation
Guide questions:
1. How do scientists describe motion?
2. When is motion observed?
3. How is motion of a body described?
4. How does a body in uniform speed move?
5. How can one’s understanding of motion help in improving road safety measures?

D. Elaboration
The students will answer the enrichment on their book page 231-232

IV. Evaluation
The students will play the game “Minute to Win It”. For one minute they have to solve
problems involving the speed correctly and as many as they can.
1. A boy walks at a speed of 4 kmph. How much time does he take to walk a distance
of 20 km?
2. Calculate the speed of a dog running through a yard covering 24m in 52s.
3. Sheila is a cross-country runner and she covers a distance of 250m in 150s. What is
her speed?
4. What is the speed of a horse that runs a distance of 1.2 miles in 2.4 minutes?
5. A cyclist covers a distance of 15 miles in 2 hours. Calculate his speed.
6. Alex is a well-known track and field athlete. She can run the 100.0 m dash in about
11.0 seconds. What is her average speed?
7. A man walks 7 km in 2 hours and 2 km in 1 hour in the same direction. What is the
man's average speed for the whole journey?
8. A car travels along a straight road to the east for 100 meters in 4 seconds, then go
the west for 50 meters in 1 second. Determine average speed.
9. What is the speed of a car that is traveling 10 miles every 5 minutes?
10. What is the speed of a sailboat traveling 100m in 140s?

V. Assignment
Answer the question on your notebook.
1. Two children talk to each other through two tin cans with a string stretched between
them as if they were talking by telephone. Do you agree that this activity is a better way
to communicate that merely shouting through the air? Why do you say so?
