Mechanics Seatwork #2 (Forces) : Engr. Marabelle Del Prado

This document contains 3 mechanics problems involving forces expressed as vectors. Problem 1 asks to express a 500N force F as a vector in terms of i and j unit vectors and identify its x and y scalar components. Problem 2 asks to determine the magnitude and angle θ of the resultant force R of two structural members exerting forces on a joint, one in tension and one in compression. Problem 3 asks to determine the x and y scalar components of a 3000 lb force running through points A and B.

SEATWORK #2
(FORCES)
ENGR. MARABELLE DEL PRADO
SEATWORK #2

1. The force F has a magnitude of 500N. Express F as a

vector in terms of the unit vectors i and j. Identify the x
and y scalar components of F.
SEATWORK #3

2. The two structural members, one of which is in tension

and the other in compression, exert the indicated forces
on joint O. Determine the magnitude of the resultant R of
the two forces and the angle 𝜃 which R makes with the
positive x-axis.
SEATWORK #4

3. The line of action of the 3000 lb force runs through the

point A and B as shown in the figure. Determine the x and y
scalar components of F.
