Intended Learning Outcomes:
• At the end of the lesson, the students
should be able to:
1. Identify what is an authentic theology.
2. apply understanding of theology in a
personal way
3. describe the life and works of St. Anthony
of Padua
Class, welcome to Theology 101 course
with the descriptive title: Faith and
Revelation. This course is important for
this is a prerequisite to all other
Theology courses that you will take in
the future.
For today’s lesson, the topic will be
about an introduction to the Theology
integrated with the study of the life and
works of Saint Anthony of Padua, the
patron saint of this College. At the end
of the lesson you are expected to
identify what is an authentic theology,
apply understanding of theology in a
personal way and describe the life and
works of St. Anthony of Padua.
The first part of the lesson will be about
theology. To start with, open the video clip
entitled, “What is Theology”. Before you watch
the video please be guided with these
questions?
1. What is the meaning of theology?
2. What is the importance of studying
theology?
Now that you have finished watching the video,
kindly open your Activity Sheet 1 and answer what
are asked there. You have to submit your activity
sheet 1 through your Theology 101 google classroom
on August 23, 2020

Your next activity is to open the power point


presentation (ppt.) presentation entitled:
“Introduction to Theology”. While reading the slides,
you take note of the important information about
theology. This time relate what you have discovered
about theology in your life.

Who is a
THEOLOGIAN?
WHO is a THEOLOGIAN?
WHO is a THEOLOGIAN?
The question is not, “Who is a Theologian?”
but “What kind of Theologian I am going to
be?” Are you going to be a good theologian or
a bad theologian? This is a more accurate
question, because as one writer put it, “Not all
theologies are equal.”
WHO is a THEOLOGIAN?
“We live in what may be the most
anti-intellectual period in the history of
Western civilization… We must have
passion—indeed hearts on fire for the things
of God. But that passion must resist with
intensity the anti-intellectual spirit of the
world.” —R. C. Sproul

1. TABLOID THEOLOGIAN

One who constructs his or


her theology based upon
naïve hearsay information
that has no basis in fact and
very little, if any, evidence to
be believed.
TABLOID THEOLOGIAN

Many times people are Tabloid


theologians because of the
theology’s appearance of
originality. As well, it can be
“cutting edge” in many people’s
minds.

One who uncritically and


unreflectively constructs his or
her theology according to
traditions and religious folklore.
The Folk theologian is often very
dogmatic about his or her
beliefs.

A professional theologian who constructs his
theology with an overly speculative and critical
spirit. His dialogue can usually come only with
other theologians. It is often called “Ivory Tower
theology.” What are some examples of Academic
theology? Why do you think someone would
want to be an Academic theologian?

“CREDO UT INTELLIGAM”

This is one of the earliest definitions of theology.


It starts with the assumption that we are
believers and, as such, we are seeking to
understand our beliefs better.
After reading the presentation, kindly
open your Activity Sheet 2 for another
task to do. Follow directions and
answer the questions. You have to
submit your accomplished activity
sheet 2 on Sunday in your google
classroom.
In your Independent Learning/Home
Study: Research at least five miracles
of St. Anthony and write your
reflection about it. Open and write
your answer in your google classroom
activity sheet 3 and submit your
accomplished activity on Sunday.
For your assignment, watch the
video clip which is linked in the
google classroom about the Life and
Works of Saint Anthony of Padua.
Answer the following questions
found in your Activity Sheet 4.
Follow the directions carefully and
answer all questions.

Another important home study is for you to
read and understand the 2019 HED Student
Handbook and the New Rules for Students
this AY 2020-2021 which are compliant with
the required protocols against COVID-19. New
and transferee students will be given printed
copies of the Handbook and you will be asked
to sign as confirmation that you abide by the
rules of the school.
