PROBLEM AND BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Introduction
The entire world is currently facing a catastrophic situation resulting from
the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which has affected the
daily lives of people worldwide. Since the World Health Organization declared a
pandemic on 11 March 2020, avoiding face-to-face activities and engaging in
social distancing have become a part of everyday life. Governments across
countries have initiated universities and higher education systems to
adapt to the new learning management. Here we are, still trying hard and
doing our best to finish our studies even though we know that we have been
through a lot in ourselves financially and emotionally. Still having faith and keep
on pushing amidst these hard times that we are now facing but a big thanks to
the modern technology, that we can continue doing our tasks and
responsibilities without going outside and can done it through online.

REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES AND LITERATURE
Related literature and studies, the role of computers in the organization and on
systems analysis will be presented on this chapter. Information system and their
impact on organizational efficiency and effectiveness are likewise presented.
Related Foreign Literature
Related foreign Literature is the basis of the proponents on how the system will
run. It is a system that been developed outside the country that almost have the
same system and functionalities.
Information System takes a very significant role in management life. It greatly
Affects and interferes in the management decision, planning, and the
development of new products or services.
FOREIGN LITERATURE FOR ONLINE EXAMINATION
Developer: Conejo
Date: 2005
CBTS: Fagbola et. al. (2014) developed a Computer Based Test System
(CBTS). CBTS is a web-based online examination system developed to
address issues such as lack of timing flexibility for automation candidates log-
off upon expiration of allowed time, result integrity, guaranty, stand-alone
deployment, need for flexibility, robustness, designed to support the
examination processes and overcome challenges framing the conduct of
examination, auto- marking, auto- submission , and generation report of
examination result.

1.Fuertes, Noguer et al. (2013) combined online quizzes and midterm face-to-
face exams with a traditional final exam and investigated the effect of online
quizzes on the academic performance compared to midterm exams. Online
quiz performance was positively and significantly related to final exam, although
the marginal effect is lower than that of the performance in the midterm face-to-
face exams. This relation is found only in the group of students who pass the
final exam, and in the parts of the exam that contain identical type of questions
to online quizzes. Interestingly, the results of a survey reveal that students
perceive the online quizzes as the element of the course that enhances most to
their learning.

2.Domenech, Blazquez et al. (2015) Concluded that frequent testing provides
opportunities for students to receive regular feedback and to increase their
motivation. It also provides the instructor with valuable information on how
course progresses, thus making it possible to solve the problems encountered
before it is too late. Frequent tests with noncumulative contents have been
widely analyzed in the literature with inconclusive results. However, cumulative
testing methods have hardly been reported in higher education courses. This
paper analyses the effect of applying an assessment method based on frequent
and cumulative tests on student performance. Our results show that, when
applied to a microeconomics course, students who were assessed by a
frequent, cumulative testing approach largely outperformed those assessed
with a single final exam.

15
A Computer-Based Assessment (CBA/2013), also known as Computer-Based
Testing (CBT), e-exam, computerized testing, and computer-administered
testing, is a method of administering tests in which the responses are
electronically recorded, assessed, or both. As the name implies, Computer-
Based Assessment makes use of a computer or an equivalent electronic device
(i.e., handheld computer). CBA systems enable educators and trainers to
author, schedule, deliver, and report on surveys, quizzes, tests and exams.
Computer-Based Assessment may be a stand-alone system or a part of a
virtual learning environment, possibly accessed via the World Wide Web.

2.CBT
Developer:
Date: 16
Computer-Based testing (CBT/2013), sometimes referred to as Computer-
Assisted Examination, is perhaps the simplest application of computing
technology to the evaluation process. Basically, it consists of the transfer of
conventional testing instruments such as multiple-choice examinations to the
computer. Students refer to questions on a monitor and highlight their choices
using a mouse or cursor, or by typing a letter or number. When programmed
correctly, such CBT allows students to review responses, go back to change
answers, and quit the exam when finished. Additional formats such as
matching questions, completion tasks, and even essay questions may be
programmed for computers or individual workstations on local area networks
(LAN). Computer-based testing is becoming the primary test administration
mode for an increasing number of large-scale licensure and certification
programs. The primary drive behind this change is the test administration
efficiencies that can be achieved, such as flexible scheduling and fast scoring.
Looming on the horizon, however, are revolutionary changes in test and item
design that will be driven by computer-based changes in formal and informal
learning environments. The learning/assessment force that was to be
awakened by harnessing computer technology and learning technology
("programmed learning" and "computer-assisted instruction") during the
educational reforms in the 1960s and 1970s never materialized. The technology
could not keep up with the dream. The giant stirred but slept again. But now,
more than thirty years later, a solid technological infrastructure is being put in
place which will enable a partnership of learning and assessment that will more
than exceed the dreams of those early pioneers. While there are many
challenges ahead in realizing the full potential of computer technology, including
the Internet, for enhancing learning and assessment, the fundamental challenge
of creating the infrastructure has been met. The giant is waking up. Computer-
based testing has come of age because computer-based learning has come of
age. There is no choice but to re-design tests and testing programs to keep
pace. (http://www.clearhq.org/Slaughter.htm)
3.CBT
Developer: Akanbi & Adetunji
Date: 2012
The World Wide Web (WWW) has gained popularity within educational sector
and become an inexpensive, easily accessible way to communicate,
disseminate information, teach, and examine courses and conduct research.
Consequently, there exists wide preference and adoption of web-based testing
and assessment over the traditional paper-based method of assessment which
has over decades been characterized by examination questions leakages,
human errors during the marking and recording of scores. Web-based testing
and assessment systems offer greater flexibility than the traditional approach
because test could be offered at different times by students and in different
locations (Akanbi & Adetunji, 2012). e-Examination system rides on the huge
success of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and its various
features, security, reliability, and consistency.

The online grade inquiry system also offered online grade inquiry service using
computer. The student will pass their full name, student number, course, year
and section during the inquiring of their grades. Each student’s grades are
already saved in registrar’s computer. The difference between the two system is
that in the online grade inquiry system, students can check their grades
anywhere while Furtwangen University automated grade inquiry students do not
have to go to school to check their grades; instead, they are using the
telephone.

The online grade inquiry system is also a system that offers exam and final
grades result for every term or semester but accessible only within the school of
city college. The difference of online grade inquiry system to “UPHSD’s online
grade inquiry” is that online grade inquiry system is designed only for local area
networking and intended only for College registrar.

The waterfall model is a breakdown of project activities into
linear sequential phases, where each phase depends on the deliverables of the
previous one and corresponds to a specialization of tasks. The approach is
typical for certain areas of engineering design. In software development, it
tends to be among the less iterative and flexible approaches, as progress flows
in largely one direction ("downwards" like a waterfall) through the phases of
conception,
initiation, analysis, design, construction, testing, deployment and maintenance.

INPUT
The proponents gathered all the necessary information pertaining to the
requirements in developing of the system proposed.
PROCESS
Each step-by-step system processes are being built one-by-one. From
databases to the interface-design, each process is carefully and thoroughly
constructed. Each improvement and progress are kept track by weekly progress
report. Adjustment is made each day and each week. if the satisfactory qualities
are met, the proponents move on the output.
Data Gathering
Communication with client through interviews is the main source of the
information that the proponents gathered in additional, the proponents collect
useful information from internet to successfully develop a system that suits their
convenience.
Data Analyzing
Evaluating the information gathered and observed the company needs,
the proponents came up with the idea of inventory management system. All the
data that has been analyzed are included on the diagram so that the processing
and flow of data is easily understand.
Designing
The proponents used a friendly user interface the compromises in the
output phase, the whole system is presented for evaluation to be made by the
proponent’s panelists through thesis defense. This concludes the proponent’s
entire conceptual framework.
40
Testing
As stated, the outcome of the system should always extent the needs of
the client for its success. It is required for the proponents to test the system
whether it satisfies the required specification. An approval test or an acceptance
test also known as user acceptance test was intended to have developed a
system that is accepted by the user. This was conducted by the proponents by
running the program through a machine that is being use for an actual
operation.
Implementation
Upon reaching the target requirement, the system will subject for the
implementation in the company.
Maintenance
The maintenance of the system was to aim to connect faults, maintain
good performance and other attributes, commonly fixing the defects. The
proponents should maintain management system that allows segment chiefs to
plan maintenance work on fixed assets such as equipment, machinery and
property.
Output
As the outcome of the process, the proponents come up with Online
Grading System with Examination for Philippine Institute of Quezon City.
41
CHAPTER 5
CONCLUSION
The proponents came up with a conclusion that an online grading system is a
must-have in a school. It is a best way of storing and computing grades of
students that provides easy way in getting the grades and to make the
procedure faster and efficient. The system incorporates a database that shall
handle all information with regards to the students. The system has a user login
to ensure the security and confidentiality of the system. The system can help
the students to get the information from the actual source at their own
convenient time through online.
RECOMMENDATION
The proponents have gone through system testing and evaluation of the
user, from this, the system had been considered as an effective tool, however
the system can still be enhanced and improve to the near future. Instructor, the
use of our online grading system may gain portable for them by the used by the
used of internet they can encode grades through online. Students the use of our
online grading system will help the students to inquire grades through online
and lessen their time looking for their respective teacher. Future developer may
maintain the system functionalities and to design other modules to support
those transactions which are beyond the scope of the study.
