Concept of Operations Management
Concept of Operations Management
From this operations management class, I got great amount of advantages and known
that operations management was very important in every companies and organization. The
operations management is the set of activities that create value in the form of goods and
services by transforming inputs into outputs. Operations management refers to arranging,
organizing, and controlling all assets and exercises to give products and services, which
applies similarly to production and services in the private and public areas and even
governments. Operations management is one of the three essential functions for all
organizations. Operations management will introduce me to basic business ideas and their
implementations. Operations management is also costly part for the organization of the
company.
And also, I have now learned that having a quality management is a requirement to
implementing an operations management Quality is very important to us. We are, therefore,
preparing to hire an external evaluator to assess the quality of the project outcome but also of
the processes. I envisage the evaluator make a number of assessments at different points
along the life of the operations. I think, this is easy way to measure quality in operations
management, but the matrix should always be made about those responsible, directly
involved to whom it should be communicated and operation from the beginning of the
project. Preparing a good quality plan is a fundamental to ensuring quality. The quality plan
may conform to quality standards. Low quality outputs mean failure of business or project.
So, it is very important and critical to control the quality of the service or products. Every
organization, companies and department should have a quality control system like checks and
inspections, monitoring, and other more complex controls.
But sometimes we have to thinks about the complexity, other factors and extra things.
For example, my experiences in my previous projects, our project mainly works on capacity
building & site level technical support for public/Government facilities in which government
employee will provide qualified health care for clients. In such cases care providers are
government employee and there are no direct incentives from supporting partners. Here what
makes things complex is care providers gives less attention to the program areas & services
they are providing, and that makes things really difficult to provide qualified service and
achieve targets set as a project. So mostly we try to focus on friendly based mentoring's and
plan for frequent refresher trainings and arrange community-based campaign like activities
/services to motivate providers.
The concept of operations management is very important for me. I have been changed
by people in the work situation and what management they would take, especially in the
team, my work is hard to achieve before. I have the difficulty of controlling the success of the
style before, with what we need to share with each member. As mentioned above, Now I am
manger in my department. My company was insurance company and I worked at claim
department. There are a lot of team members under my control. However, I think my
members have personal experiences and skills. Each member has their own needs and
reasons. I try to understand and value the differences of the members. Now I know how best
to give way.
And another thing I learn from the operations management in group assignment and
group works were human resources, job design, team development and team work. The
essence of operations team work is as team of people able to work together to solve
problems, develop solution, and deliver project outputs. Project work is a team pursuit, not an
individual one. Every organization or companies, team work and team development are really
important for organization want to achieve their task performance. There are four stages of
team development, actually there are five stages of team development that I learn from these
courses as follow, Ishikawa diagram (fishbone diagram), five stage model of team
development (forming stage, storming stage, norming stage, performing stage, performing
and adjourning stage).
And the supply chain management part, how to integrate supply chain into the
business’s strategy and determine how to be purchased, from our supplier in any conditions.
For example in global pandemic, we have to think about in the new normal way. In new
normal cases, we have to think about the inventory control like our suppliers cannot get on
time delivery. And we have to think about the costs of transportation and logistics fees.
Communication takes mainly part in supply chain management. Project managers or
operation managers spend a lot of their time communicating with many people in a variety of
ways. It is extremely important to consider all aspects of communication as early as possible
in the project life cycle, and recognize that it is not a one-way process and that dialogue will
mean that conversations and exchanges will evolve as they unfold. Many factors affect the
success of communication, including cultural influences, the mood of the team, the method of
communication chosen and the language used. Nowadays, a good deal is a win-win
agreement for both sides, rather than a bargain for just one party. The concept of operations
management gave me a good plan to establish the objective of the negotiation and an
understanding of the economic aspects involved in the negotiation.
