Trimester 1

Principles of Marketing Management

Team Project Announcement
Task: Marketing Planning
Instructions for Phase 1 Submission

(This assignment will have multiple rounds of submission)

1. Each team shall select a company and a brand. If the company you have selected
has many brands under an umbrella brand, or multiple individual brands, you should
pick one specific brand.

2. Try not to have an exceptionally well-performing or an extremely ill-performing

company or brand. Technically, there is no problem you doing this, but your project
will not contain substantive material or action plans. Your learning is likely to be
shallow.

3. No company or brand shall be selected by more than one team. Teams shall seek
my approval for company and brand before you proceed. You should send me your
approval requests not later than 22:00, 28 August 2021.

4. Revise all concepts and principles discussed so far.

5. Read chapters 1 and 2 of Ho Yin Wong, Kylie Radel, and Roshnee Ramsaran-
Fowdar.

6. Start looking for credible secondary and published information about your company
– these will include (but not restricted to) company annual reports, third-party
reviews, and any other credible published material, including articles in the press.

7. Do PESTEL of the industry (category) where the company / brand belongs. This
should be done in the context of the industry, and should not be a general,
theoretical discussion.

8. Perform “Competitive Landscape” of the industry. You may start with 5C’s. Also use
Porter’s Five Forces. You will be exposed to other frameworks during sessions. As
soon as you learn those frameworks, you should start applying them on your project.
9. You are free, if you so feel, to interview company representatives to access non-
confidential information. This is not a compulsory requirement. If you decide to
approach company representatives, you shall conduct in the most professional
manner, upholding the dignity and decorum of NIAM in all your interactions or
correspondence. I will not help you set up appointments or source information.

10. While a natural leader may evolve per team who may take an overall lead in the
project, all team members are required to equally contribute toward completing the
project. I have ways of ascertaining individual contribution – if I see that a student
has not put in effort, the entire team where s/he belongs will get an F grade in the
whole project.

11. Your work should be word processed (Word file), proof-read, and professionally
formatted. You may use Arial font 12, paragraph spacing 12 pt, and line spacing
exactly 17 pt. Adjust your Word settings accordingly. In case of doubt, look under
Font and Paragraph of this document – this has followed the specified settings. Your
submission must not exceed 10 pages.

12. All sources of data and information in your submission should be cited using APA
referencing style. In case you have doubts about APA style, please Google.

13. Teams are welcome to email me your doubts or questions, or seek guidance. If you
must talk to me or do a VC, please seek an appointment.

14. Your Phase 1 submission is due 22:00, 09 September 2021. This deadline is non-
negotiable.
