The OFW discusses their experiences working abroad for 6 years to support their family, comparing other countries to the Philippines. They do not wish to work abroad again in order to focus on their family. Does globalization exist during this pandemic?

Globalization is the method of interaction and integration among individuals, companies, and
governments around the world. Globalization has quickened since the 18th century due to propels in
transportation and communication innovation. Now, the question is “Does globalization exist during this
pandemic?” This is the first article I focused on. It quite interesting because it is timely and relevant not
just in our country but in the whole world. Sadly, Globalization at this time has a lack of efforts by
cooperation in all countries.
In defense of globalization
The best approach to the world we are living in is not denial but empowerment. Countries should
recognize that the global economy and the technological revolution require large, sustained national
efforts to equip workers with the skills, capital, and infrastructure they need to succeed. Nations should
embrace an open world but only as long as they are properly armed to compete in it. And that requires
smart, effective -- and very expensive -- national policies, not some grand reversal of globalization.

The post-pandemic world needs better globalization, not less

"Our fractured world needs agile governance and smarter globalization," Klaus Schwab, founder and
chief executive of the WEF, once said.
The world will never be the same when this pandemic comes to an end, and neither will the process of
globalization. The human race has every reason to repeat what they did in the aftermath of the 2008
financial crisis and work together to help this unstoppable trend take a turn for the better.

Activity: Ang Mundo sa Mata ng Isang OFW

1. Find a former or a current OFW to be interviewed. Your respondent's name should not be
revealed in class to protect the person's identity and ensure anonymity
Name: Mrs. Maria Esperanza Morales

2. Use the following guide questions (you may add additional questions):
 How long have you stayed abroad?
- I’ve been stayed in abroad for 6 years
 What are the purposes for your stay there?
- To earn a lot of money for my Family.
 What were your most unforgettable experiences there? How will you describe them,
good or bad?
- I experienced how to work with people of different races and they are a lot of good
people in abroad. Thankfully, God put me in a kind and generous boss. And I think
that’s an unforgettable experience I had.

 How will you compare the Philippines with other countries?

- There are huge differences in the Philippines with other countries because the
Philippines is the most hospitable in welcoming people but in the other country, they
have this belief that they will surely first know people before welcoming them. Other
countries accept Same-sex marriage but in the Philippines, it is not allowed because we
have this belief that marriage is a sacred thing and it is exclusive for men and women.
 Do you want to go back abroad or to other countries in the future? Why or why not?
- I don’t want to go back abroad because I’d spend my 6 years serving people whom I do
not know. Right now I want to give and serve everything to my family that I loved the
most.

3. Share to the class the results of your interview and your personal insights about your
respondent's experience
- My dear classmates, I interviewed my friend's mother. She spends her life in 6 years
serving people whom she didn’t know. She works hard to earn money for the sake of her
family and to give a better future to her children. For me, that is a genuine love because
she sacrifices years to give a prosperous life to her family.
