Quiz 1

1. Many Catholics still believe that the term “Mission” and “Missionary”
refer only to priests, sisters, and religious. What new understanding
have you developed about these concepts – missions and
missionaries?

For me, being a missionary is for everyone. It is not just for priests, nuns,
and other religious sectors. All of us can be missionaries in our own little
way. We can learn and share the words of God to our family, friends, and
other people. We can do charity works. We can help feed the poor or stray
animals. We can advocate for those who are helpless. These things are
also considered missions. Everything that Jesus Christ wants us to do,
help other people, can be considered a mission. For example, a teacher
who walks 1 hour to a small school to teach kids in barrios is a mission. A
doctor who give poor people free consultations and medications is also
considered a mission. Teaching little kids in the streets about the story of
Jesus is still a missionary work. We can all be missionaries in our own
way.

2. Describe the poor in your community. How can you explain that God
loves them in spite of their situation?

Just right outside our village is a huge lot. About 20 families lives there.
They built their own nipa hut on that land decades ago and grew their
families there. Whenever we have bayanihan projects at church,
especially now that we are in a pandemic, we always make sure to include
them in the list of beneficiaries.

We all know that Jesus loves us all equally no matter what our race,
gender, or social status is, but he has a bigger heart for the poor. I believe
that God loves that poor despite their situation because they still manage
to get through the day. God still bless them with babies. God loves them
dearly. They just need to help themselves better their lives.

What I mean is, you know you are poor, then try to think of ways you can
earn more money and have a better live. Do not dwell on things that will
further put you down like, ‘oh I came from a poor family, I will forever be
poor’. Wrong! Jesus is there to help you. You just need to get on your feet
and try and do your best.
