RATIONALE:

This subject deals with different types of textile fabrics used for various special purpose
industries, e.g. medical textiles, protective textiles, geo-textiles etc. It includes special
requirements of the fibres and yarns for specific utility. It includes detail study of manufacturing
process of woven and non-woven fabrics used in technical textiles.
It also includes the application of knitted fabrics in the field of technical textiles. It explains the
types of warp and weft knitted structures and jacquard structures in this field. It describes the
testing of above fabrics for its very special requirements.
This subject also deals with chemical processes required for end use of technical textiles. It
includes pretreatments, dyeing, printing and finishing processes carried on fabrics for specific
properties as technical application.

OBJECTIVES:

The student will able to

 Understand the concept of Technical Textiles.


 Understand special requirements of fibres, yarns, fabrics in technical textiles.
 Learn the manufacturing processes, weaving and knitting, for technical textiles.
 Describe Quality aspects and Advantages CAD in manufacturing processes.
 Understand functional processes for special requirements of technical textiles
 Learn various special chemicals and auxiliaries to be used for technical textiles.
