Module I: Defining the Self: Personal and Developmental Perspective on

Self and Identity


Activity: Do you truly know yourself!
Direction: Answer the following questions about yourself as fully and precisely as you can.
1. How would you characterize yourself?
I am a good, kind and humble person, I help those people who are in need. I’m just a
simple student living in a simple life.

2. What makes you stand out from the rest? What makes yourself special?
For me, what makes me special is that, I am a unique person and I have
determination and perseverance to achieve my dreams in life.

3. How has your self transformed itself?


Be matured enough, doing what is right and best for me. Learn to accept my
mistakes and I make it some of my motivation to pursue in life.

4. How is your self connected to your body?


I am very responsible to my actions and be a good role model to other people. Learn
to avoid any vices and live in a happy lifestyle.

5. How is your self related to other selves?


I think I am just a simple guy, I have so many dreams in life to do, I have more and
enough skills and knowledge. Just like the others I am true to myself and do what the best
for me.

6. What will happen to your self after you die?


Having a new and another beautiful in life with God.

I can say that I am a responsible and a hard-working student. I have friends and
classmates since I like to communicate with other people and get to know new
interesting individuals. I enjoy my time at school and it is really nice to study. My
friends say that I am a silent and an interesting guy with a good sense of humor. As
soon as I meet new people who are happy to meet me, I feel extremely comfortable
with them. I believe that friendship is one of the most important values in human life

At first, I am very shy because I don’t have
some friends since then I started to make some
new friends and those are my classmate since
grade 7 to grade 10. When I was a child I always

didn’t expect that I am in the 1st place in chess

athlete. After I graduated in elementary, I started
to enroll in Holy Rosary Academy as a High
School student. After I graduated in junior high
school. I choose Electrical Installation
Maintenance or EIM course, I learn a lot of things
and I learn how to install electrical wirings in
some houses. After our After our job training, we
took an NCII assessment so that we can get NCII
certificate in Electrical Maintenance. After I
graduated in Senior High School, I started to go
to college I choose to enroll in SLSU here in
Hinunangan, studying Bachelor of Information
Technology (BSIT).

As a student I would describe myself as an hardworking and kind of guy who have a
goals in life. Obedient and respectful to everyone.

2. What are the influence of family in your development as an individual?


I think one of learn from my family is to know how to love God with all my life and
learn how to be respectful to others and be a good and simple person all the time.

3. Think of a time when you felt you were your “true self”. What made you think you
were truly who you are during this time of your life?
When I have a problem, I am very true to myself. I listen to some advices especially
to my family. And despite of every problems that I encounter to my life I also remain
true to myself and never give up in life.

4. Following the question above, can you provide a time when you felt you were not
living your “true self”? Why did you have to live a life like that? What did you do
about it?
Sometimes I feel down especially if someone will always not there in times of difficulties
but I always remain strong. When I have a problem before related in school like how to
finish the projects. If feel down because I don’t have self confidence in doing the task.

5. What social pressures help shape your self? Would you have wanted it otherwise?

For me I think I am simple, good and humble person. Despite of the characteristics that I
have I am not a totally friendly to everyone. I choose some people that I want to make
friends. I am not a “barkadista” in short. I am kind to those people who treat me in a good
way but I am not good to those people who are not good in me. I am also a friendly too, and
most of all I am a trustworthy person and a good friend in good and in bad times.

For me, I think Philippines are very attached to their cultures similar to other Asian neighbors,
they love their traditions and their cultural beliefs. In Philippines there are so many cultural
beliefs especially in every region. Every region in the Philippines have different culture like
their beliefs, dialects used, different foods, and how they interact with each other. For me,
despite of different society, culture in the world. The best thing to do is to show love and
respect with each other.

FILIPINO culture. Provide a brief explanation of your output. You can also cite books and
researches about Filipino culture, self, and identity to further elaborate on the topic.
