1.0 SCOPE

This method statement defines the procedure to be followed for installation,


.Testing and commissioning of UPS

2.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to establish the standard method for


installation, Testing & Commissioning of UPS for the above project. It is the
intention of this document to install the material in full compliance with the
.project specification

3.0 REFERENCE

The following references are needed for the installation of UPS

3.1 Manufacturer’s Instruction

3.2 Approved Material Submittal

3.3 Project Specification . (Division 16 ref. 16264)

3.4 Approved Shop Drawing

4.0 QUALITY CONTROL

.Quality of installation at site shall be ensured by Quality Control

The supervisor shall supervise the installation work and the engineer shall
check and approve the installation according to project specification,
manufacturer’s instruction and approved shop drawing for installation of
.UPS

5.0 MATERIAL USED

All materials shall be in compliance with the client/consultant approved list


.and appropriate standards

Materials to be used shall be as per the approved material and should be


.inspected prior to use

All comments in the material submittal should be coordinated /verified


.prior to procurement of material

Any discrepancies /damages etc found during the transport to be notified.


Material found not suitable for the site shall be removed from site
.immediately

6.0 STORAGE AND HANDLING

6.1 UPS must be stored in a dry place and they must be handled
carefully.

6.2 UPS must be protected from direct sun light by placing them in sun
shades and to be protected from any moisture condensation.

6.3 UPS to be kept on concrete up stand or wooden up stand

6.4 UPS must be checked for any defect or damage before installation.

6.5 Store conduits generally based on recommendation of manufacturer.

7.0 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

: The following tools and equipment shall be used for installation of UPS

7.1 Crane

7.2 Fork Lift

7.3 Screw Driver

7.4 Approved test Equipment

7.5 Correctly rated load and Cables.

Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working condition.

8.0 SAFETY

8.1 Safety equipment like Hard hats, Safety shoes, Coveralls, Gloves
Goggles when necessary etc. to be worn at all times.

8.2 Ensure work area is clean and tidy.

8.3 Ensure adequate work area lighting and ventilation is available.

8.4 Good house keeping and protection to be done for all installed UPS
and accessories.

9.0 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

9.1 Installation

9.1.1 Unload the transport units in packed condition and leave


packed as until installation works starts.

9.1.2 Each package shall be dismantled carefully to take the subject


materials out.

9.1.3 Using fork lift UPS and battery shall be moved to the place of
installation.

9.1.4 While positioning the Battery and UPS it shall be ensured that
clearence between them and walls as per approved drawings.

9.2 Installation Check

9.2.1 It is to be ensured for proper tightening all external connections


to UPS, Battery and Load.

9.2.2 It is to be ensured for proper phase rotation of AC and polarity


of DC connections.

9.2.3 All protective earth connections is to be checked.

9.2.4 Service switch installation is to be checked.

9.3 Inspection

9.3.1 Mechanical Inspection

9.3.1.1 General inspection of external steel work & internal


components.

9.3.1.2 Physical damage internal & external.

9.3.1.3 UPS & cabinets lined up.

9.3.1.4 Doors fixed properly.

9.3.2 Electrical Inspection

9.3.2.1 The size of power cable for UPS input, output, bypass and
battery cabinets.

9.3.2.2 Voltage measurement for UPS input, output, Bypass.

10 TESTING AND INSPECTION

10.1 Barriers/signs shall be erected if necessary to ensure personal


approaching the work area are adequately informed of the operation
in progress.

10.2 The cables of sufficient size shall be run to support the load
bank.

10.3 The final connections to the UPS shall be made at the output
point once it has been established that it is DEAD and safe to do so.

10.4 The load bank shall be energized with zero loads and checked for
functionality if satisfactorely the UPS shall be energized and switched
to support the load bank.

10.5 Load shall be applied to the KW rating of the UPS (assuming unit
power factor load bank) and the UPS allowed running for 15 minutes.

10.6 On starting the battery discharge test the mains shall be failed at
the closest isolation point upstream of the UPS to simulate mains
failure. Battery voltage and current will be recorded from the UPS
display at 60 seconds intervals until cut-off voltage is achieved.

10.7 The main supply shall be re-installed and the UPS allowed
restarting, recharge voltage and current shall be recorded and the
battery allowed recharging.

10.8 Before disconnecting the load bank it shall be allowed to cool off
load and then switched off. The output of the UPS will be isolated to
allow the load bank to be disconnected.

10.9 On completion of the load bank test all connections, power and
control shall be remade and checked.

10.9.a If the battery still requires re-charging the UPS shall be started
and left to recharge either supplying the load or isolated from it.

10.9.b The Load bank shall be packed for removal and stored safety
until dispatched.

10.9.c All barriers/signs removed leaving the workplace as it was


found.

10.9.d Results shall be drawn up into a report and completion


certificate issued.
