INFORMATIVE SPEECH OUTLINE

Constanza Bertona

Topic: COVID-19

General Purpose: To Inform

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the advance of this virus

Thesis: From the beginning of COVID-19 in Wuhan to the actual situation in Argentina and how the
Country responds to the pandemic.

Introduction:
Get Attention: Did you ever had to spend over a week isolated? When I was little, I had mumps and I
had to spend over 10 days isolated to avoid spreading the virus.

Establish your credibility on the topic: I still remember how long it was for me at that time. These days
we are facing a pandemic.

Preview of main points:

First, we will review what is the coronavirus

Second, how the virus spread all around the globe

Finally, how Argentina is facing the pandemic.

The body:
1. What is Coronavirus?
1.1. Coronavirus is a new virus disease.
1.2. Until now we how the principal symptoms are: high fever, dry cough, and tiredness. Serious
symptoms that could cause medical attention.
1.3. Unusual symptoms are conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste, or smell. Most infected people
will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization
2. Who are most propel to get the disease?
2.1. Everyone could get the disease, but it is most lethal in people over 60 years old and those with
preexistence illness like asthma, heart affections, diabetes.
2.2. Until now, the principal focus isn’t the children, even when they can get the virus, it is not lethal
for them unless they had some medical affection before getting the virus.
3. Is there any medical treatment for the virus?
3.1. There is not a vaccine for the virus. Many countries use plasma from those how recovered from
coronavirus and develop antibodies for it
3.2. The best thing we can do is to keep a healthy lifestyle at home as much as we can. Wash our
hands several times a day, and clean everything we buy and touch when we arrive at home.
4. Since the first case of coronavirus confirmed by China on December 31, 2019, the virus rapidly
arrived in Europe where death ones where counted in thousands.
4.1. Then, the principal focus was on the United States.
4.2. Today the principal focus is Latin America where the healthcare institutions are not enough to
face a high number of patients with critical symptoms.
5. March 3, Argentina confirmed the first case of coronavirus and ten days later, the president
declared mandatory social isolation in the entire country.
5.1. Since then, many states controlled the spread of the virus and let people reopen many stores
and return to some regular activities.
5.2. Buenos Aires is a big city, with a high conglomerate of people, the situation is different there,
where the cases are increased during the last weeks. People need transit permission to go to
the city, routes, train, and subway stations are controlled by the police who request the
permission provided by the government to each one that wants to use the service.

The conclusion:
Review the Main Points: Even when it is a high contagious dangerous virus, scientists told us how we
can prevent it. Having a healthy diet, sleep, stay active, clearing everything we buy, and washing our
hands, helps us to get through this. It is very important to make social contact with friends and family, to
avoid feelings like loneliness and sadness. Children need more attention, a lot of patience, and a routine
that lets them keep some habits like before pandemic started.

Clouse: This is not easy, but we can see the end of the tunnel in countries from Asia and Europe where
people are returning slowly to their jobs and regular activities.
