_________________________________________________________________ SMOKE ANALYSIS CHAMBER
Thank you for having chosen one of our equipments for your garage.
We are certain that it will give the utmost satisfaction and be of notable use.
Please become fully familiar with the instructions in this manual, which should be
kept ready to hand for consultation whenever required.
Smokemeter analyses the degree of opacity in exhaust gases issued by a diesel engine.
The high technology used when constructing this equipment is a sure guarantee of
accuracy when it comes to results.
These features are better exploited by the serial use of the cell through the connection
to the STARGAS or to a Personal Computer.
Thanks to the use of these tools the test procedures are easier and quicker: indeed,
operating steps are displayed on a LCD display or on the video while test results are
printed graphically or numerically by the connected printer.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 3

Become thoroughly familiar with all the installation, use and maintenance instructions in
this manual.
Never allow unqualified persons to use this instrument. Such action could cause
accidents or damage the instrument itself.
The place of work should be dry, sufficiently lit and well ventilated.
Remember that when inhaled, carbon monoxide (odourless) can cause serious harm to
the organism.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 7
SMOKE ANALYSIS CHAMBER _________________________________________________________________
Before proceeding, check that the gearshift of the vehicle is in the neutral position
(or in the parking position if the vehicle has an automatic transmission), engage
the Safety or hand brake of the tested vehicle and check that the wheels are
blocked.
Protect the face, hands and feet to prevent contacts with hot surfaces such as
spark plugs, exhaust pipes, radiators and cooling plant fittings.
Check that all electrical connections are insulated and firmly fixed.
Never look through the carburetor intake tube whilst the engine is running.
Keep the hands and hair well away from moving parts. Never wear neckties, loose
garments, wrist jewellery or watches when working on a vehicle, especially when
the engine is on.
Keep well away from the fan. The cooling fan is controlled by a thermic switch
governed by the temperature of the cooling fluid. Always disconnect the fan cable
each time work is carried out on an engine that is still hot. This will prevent the fan
from suddenly activating even when the engine is off.
Never pour fuel straight into the carburetor to facilitate engine start-up.
Never unscrew the radiator plug before the temperature of the engine has lowered
together with the pressure in the cooling system.
Always handle portable lamps with care and only use those with metal guards.
Remember that the catalytic silencer can become very hot and could cause serious
burns or outbreaks of fire. Take the greatest care to ensure that there are no oil
splashes, rags, paper or other easily inflammable materials near the silencer.

SMOKE ANALYSIS CHAMBER _________________________________________________________________
The EEC TEST has to be carried out with 4 consecutive accelerations, each of them
having to start when the message ACCELERATE is displayed and to stop some instants
after the message STOP has been displayed.
NOTA BENE:
In case of no opacity increase during the 20 seconds that follow the pop-
up message ACCELERATE (considering the first acceleration and
10 seconds for the following ones), this window will be shown:
Once the engine idle RPM value is acquired, the program allows to
proceed with the test. It will check every acceleration performed, but by
referring to the RPM increasing value, instead of standard opacity
measurement method.
If the RPM reading fails, for every single acceleration the program will
pop up a window to fill in manually the RPM value.
The four opacity values detected during accelerations are reported in the boxes and
expressed in K m-1.
In case one of these values exceeded the set threshold the test would restart
automatically (asking for two more accelerations) from the last value reported in the
table.
When all of the four values reported in the table range within the set thresholds, the
average opacity value is displayed in the OPACITY square calculated on the basis of the
four useful values.
The values can be regarded as valid when the last four ones do not form a decreasing
succession and range within an interval of <= 0.25 K m-1.
ATTENTION:
The pressure in mbar displayed in the EEC TEST page is the pressure gauged
inside the Smokemeter.
The value may vary 7 mbar more or less than zero. Only in this way may the
measured opacity values be considered correct.
In case the pressure variation exceeds this value the message ACQUISITION ERROR
is displayed.

NOTA:

diámetro inferior o igual a 70 mm.
diámetro superior a 70mm.
