PERFORMANCE TASK in Math9

1. The document is a performance task in mathematics for 9th grade students. It provides information about three rectangular pieces of plywood with different dimensions and areas. 2. Students are asked to write quadratic equations representing the area of each plywood piece in terms of its width, and then put each equation into standard form to determine the values of a, b, and c. 3. They also must solve each quadratic equation using the quadratic formula and show their work. The task evaluates students' ability to represent word problems with quadratic equations and solve them.

Some of these rectangular plywood is described below.

Plywood 1: The length of the plywood is twice its width and the area is 4.5 square feet.
Plywood 2: The length of the plywood is 1.4 feet less than twice its width and the area is 16 square feet.
Plywood 3: The perimeter of the plywood is 10 feet and its area is 6 square feet.
