Solve the following problems. Show necessary solutions

26. The three angles in a triangle are in the ratio of 2:3:4. Find the measure of each angle.

To be in the ratio 2:3:42:3:4, the angles must be 2θ,3θ2θ,3θ and 4θ4θ, for some angle θθ.

Since it is a triangle, we know that…
2θ+3θ+4θ=180∘2θ+3θ+4θ=180∘
⟹9θ=180∘⟹9θ=180∘
⟹θ=180∘9=20∘⟹θ=180∘9=20∘
So the three angles are…

2×20∘=40∘2×20∘=40∘,
3×20∘=60∘3×20∘=60∘ and
4×20∘=80∘

27. The sum of 3 consecutive even numbers is 78. Find the numbers.

Let the 3 even numbers be :

n,n+2,n+4

⇒n+(n+2)+(n+4)=78

equation to be solved

3n+6=78

subtract 6 from both sides.

3n+6−6=78−6
⇒3n=72

To solve for n, divide both sides by 3

3n/3=72/3

n=24

28. The sum of two numbers is 95. If one exceeds the other by 15, find the numbers.

Let the first number be x

second number be (x+15) // one exceed other by 15 //
sum of the number is  given by x+(x+15) = 95
x+x+15=95
2x+15 = 95
2x =95-15
2x = 80
x=80/2
x =40
first number x=40, second number x+15 = 40+15= 55
The numbers are 40 and 55.

29. Two numbers are in the ratio 5:3. If they differ by 18, what are the numbers?
let their ratio be x
so the two numbers are: 5x and 3x

now, according to question

5x - 3x =18
2x =18
x= 9.

therefore the two numbers are:

5x= 5 x 9= 45
and
3x= 3 x 9 = 27
answer.

just in case you want to verify

45-27=18

30. The perimeter of a rectangular swimming pool is 154 m. Its length is 2 m more than twice its
width. What are the length and the width of the pool?
Length = 52 m

Width = 25 m

Step-by-step explanation:

2 + 2n = length

n = width

2([2 + 2n] + n) = 154

([4 + 4n] + 2n) = 154

(4n + 2n) = 154 - 4

6n = 150

n = 25

n = 25 m = width

2 + 2n = 2 + 2(25) = 52 m = length

31. The sum of two numbers is 25. One of the numbers exceeds the other by 9. Find the numbers.

x and x+9 are the numbers

x+x+9=25
2x+9=25
2x=25-9
2x=16
x=16/2
x=8
x+9=8+9=17
8 and 17 are the numbers

if you are not in algebra, here is another solution:
25/2=12.5
12+13=25
11+14=25
10+15=25
9+16=25
8+17=25  answer
32. The difference between the two numbers is 48. The ratio of the two numbers is 7:3. What are
the two numbers?

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

The difference between the two numbers is 48.

The ratio of the two numbers is 7 : 3.

To Find :-

The Two Numbers

Solution :-

Let the first number be 7x

And the second number be 3x

According to the Question,

⇒ 7x - 48= 3x

⇒ 7x-3x = 48

⇒ 4x = 48

⇒ x = 48/4

⇒ x = 12

1st number is= 7x = 84

2nd number= 3x = 36

Hence, 84 and 36 are the two numbers.

33. The length of a rectangle is twice its width. If the perimeter is 72 meter, find the length and with
of the rectangle.

Answer:

Width - 12 m , Length - 24 m

Step-by-step explanation:

Width = x

Length = 2x

Perimeter of Rectangle = 2(L + W)

So, perimeter is 2(2x + x) = 2(3x) = 6x

Equation: 6x = 72

Solving for x:

6x = 72

x = 72/6

x = 12

So the width is 12 m while the length is twice the width so it is 24 m.

34. Aaron is 5 years younger than Ron. Four years later, Ron will be twice as old as Aaron. Find
their present ages.
x = Aaron's age
x + 5 = Ron's

x + 4 = Aaron's
2(x + 4) = 2x + 8 = Ron's

x + x + 5 = x + 4 + 2x + 8 - 8
2x + 5 = 3x + 4
1=x

Subtitute

Answer : Aaron's age = 1;  Ron's age = 6

35. A number is divided into two parts, such that one part is 10 more than the other. If the two
parts are in the ratio 5: 3, find the number and the two parts.

solution:
       let one part of number = x
           therefore ,  other part of number = x+10
   according to question ,
             x+10/x=5/3
           3(x+10)= 5x
           3x+30 =5x
             30 = 5x -3x
             30 = 2x
     or x=30/2
         x=15

therefore one part of number = 15

and other part = 15+10 =25

hence number = 15+25 =40

36. Robert’s father is 4 times as old as Robert. After 5 years, father will be three times as old as
Robert. Find their present ages.

Age of Robert is Y

Age of father is X

Then X =4Y……………………………..EQ(1)

After 5 years ,father's age is (X+5)

And Robert’s age is (Y+5)

So equation is (X+5)=3(Y+5),………….EQ(2)

EQ (1) in (2) 4Y+5=3(Y+5)

4Y+5=3Y+15

4Y-3Y=15–5

Y=10

THEN THE FATHERS AGE IS 4Y=40

HENCE the age of Robert Y is 10

And fathers age is 40

42. The denominator of a rational number is greater than its numerator by 3. If the numerator is
increased by 7 and the denominator is decreased by 1, the new number becomes 3/2. Find the
original number.

Answer:

8/11

Step-by-step explanation:

Original:

 x/(x+3)

Numerator is increased by 7 and denominator is decreased by 1

 (x+7)/(x+3-1) = 3/2
 (x+7)/(x+2) = 3/2
 Cross multiply;
 (x+7)(2) = (x+2)(3)
 2x+14 = 3x+6
 14-6 = 3x-2x
 8=x

Original

 x/(x+3)
 8/(8+3)
 8/11

43. The sum of the digits of a two digit number is 7. If the number formed by reversing the digits is
less than the original number by 27, find the original number.

Answer: 52

Step-by-step explanation:the digits are x and y

So. X + y = 7

10x + y is the original number

Reversed number is 10y + x

So. 10x + y - 27 = 10y + x

So. X - y = 3.... X = 3 + y

So. 3 + y + y = 7

2y = 4

Y=2

X=5

Number is 52

44. Divide 28 into two parts in such a way that 6/5 of one part is equal to 2/3 of the other.

Let the two parts of 28 be x and y.

∴ x + y = 28

x = 28 - y .........(1)

Also, according to the given condition,

18(28 -y) = 10 y [By Cross Multiplying]

504 - 18y = 10y

18y = 504

y = 28

Now,
(1) x = 28 - y

x = 28 - 28

x=0

So, the two parts are 28 and 0.

45. When 6 is added to four times a number, the result is 50. Find the number.

6+4x=50
subtract 6 from both sides.

4x=50-6 combine the right side.

4x=44 divide by 4 x=44/4 reduce the fraction.

50=50

46. The sum of a number and 9 is multiplied by -2 and the answer is -8. Find the number.

-8 = (some number + 9) (-2)

Now, let's use "x" for that unknown number.

-2(x + 9) = -8

From here, you could solve for x:

-2x - 18 = -8
-2x = 10
x = -5

Let's see if that's correct:

-2 (x + 9) = -8
-2 (-5 + 9) = -8
10 - 18 = -8

47. If 4 is subtracted from twice a number, the result is 10 less than the number. Find the number.

2x - 4 = x - 10

Solve for x:

2x - 4 = x - 10
2x = x - 6
x = -6

The number is -6.

48. Twice a number is added to the number and the answer is 90. Find the number.

49. The perimeter of a triangular lot is 72 meters. One side is 16 meters, and the other side is
twice the first side. Find the length of the third side.

Info we know:
Side 1 or A - 16 Meters
Side 2 or B - 2*A OR 2*16 Meters
Side 3 or C - ?
Perimeter or P = 72 Meters

Formula for Triangle Perimeters:
A + B + C = P

Formula w/ the Info we know:
A + 2A + C = 72

Plugging in & Solving:
16 + 2 (16) + C = 72
16 + 32 + C = 72

48 + C = 72
-48 = -48 --> Subtracting 48 from each side to get C alone.
C = 24

So the third side of the triangular lot is 24 meters long.

50. Jose has a board that is 44 inches long. He wishes to cut it into two pieces so that one piece
will be 6 inches longer than the other. How long should the shorter piece be?

Then x + y =44 and x = y + 6

Substituting the second equation into the first yields:

y+6 +y =44 or 2y=38 y=19 and therefore x = 19 + 6 = 25

the lengths of the two pieces are 19 and 25 inches.
