DICKENS POETRY
Dickens accepted the publishing convention of his society. The new way of writing
is characterized by instalments so the novel was not completely but in a serial
form. This new conception of writing gives more attention by the reader and more
suspense.
Dickens novel was full of climax and the character are apparently superfluous, but
at the very end of the story they represent the canonise of Victorian Age. From
Oliver twist on, the critics of the society became the most important theme.
In novel after novel, Dickens use themes ad education child labour, industrial
exploitation and he analyse the legal system and crime. Dickens use the novel to
educate the Victorian Society not only to entreating.
THE PICKWICK PAPERS
the Pickwick papers is the first never written by Dickens. It was published in
monthly instalments from April 1836- November 1837.
this novel is based on the journey of Mr Pickwick. The journey is based on comic
episodes that appends on the roads. This is similar to the picaresque novel
because is based on a journey, it allowed the author to introduce more characters
from different class and areas, so there is a variety of people had a lot of
occupation that make up a society.
Another characterise of this novel is to satirize many aspects of the society.
Mr Pickwick is one of the most important comic characters and is the symbol of
kindness, gentles, and dickens use this characters to dramatizing and amplifying
these basic qualities. for this reason, Mr Pickwick is a character’s humours and
grotesque and a round character.
Generally speaking, is a flat character because he didn't change his role on the
story, but with the exaggeration and the caricatures he represents the Victorian
Hero.
The Victorian Hero is not as the Hero of the past (Romantic Age) but is
considered like that because he doesn’t correspond to the stereotype of this
period (Victorian Age).
Mr Pickwick embodies the ordinary people that survive from the opportunism and
the cruelty of his age. He survives with humility and benevolence.
