Hydrology Report at CH-9+491

This document provides calculations to estimate discharge from a catchment area using two different methods. The first method uses RYVE's formula to calculate discharge of 16.52 cubic meters per second based on a catchment area of 2.71 square kilometers. The second method uses area-velocity calculations from three cross sections along the stream to estimate discharges of 607.93 cubic meters per second at 30 meters upstream and 745.41 cubic meters per second at 80 meters upstream. Cross section data including area, perimeter, depth, and other values are presented.

HYDROLOGY CALCULATION

DISCHARGE CALCULATION:
1. Discharge by RYVE'S formula
As per IRC:SP:13-2004 (Cl. 4.3)
Discharge Q= C . M2/3

Where, M = CatchmentCatchment
area in sq.km=
area in sq. km = 2.710
C = 6.8 for Areas near Coast less than 25Km,
= 8.5 between 25Km and 160Km of coast.
= 10 for limited Areas near the hills.
Taking C = 8.5
Therefore, Discharge
Q= (8.5X2.71^(2/3))
Q= 16.52 m3 / s.

2. Discharge by Area Velocity Method

i) Bed slope
Bed level at 130 m U/S 606.774 FRL = 612.410 m
Bed level at 130 m D/S 605.595 WC = 53 mm
Super Structure = 1480 mm
Average bed slope = 0.0045 Free Board = 600 mm

ii) Calculation of discharge for each cross section

iii) Mean Discharge by AV Method

Based on Discharge Calculations at different locations
Average section of river 162.60 m2
Average Discharge 686.22 m3/s
Average Velocity 4.21 m/s

3. Design Discharge Q = 686.2247 m3/s

As Per IRC: SP-13-2004, Article 6, The highest of the above value shall be adopted as the Design discharge.
But the provided maximum value doesn’t exceed the second highest discharge by more than 50%.
Hence 1.5 x 16.52
Design Discharge Q = 24.78 m3/s

CALCULATION OF LINEAR WATER WAY AND CHECK FOR AFFLUX:

Design discharge Q = 24.78 m3/s
Velocity of river V = 0.55 m/s
Observed HFL = 610.277 m
Sill level = 607.297 m
Depth of water d = 2.98 m
Area of section at causeway A 1 15.80 2.98 = 47.08 m²
Available waterway A1 1 15.00 2.98 = 44.70 m²

As per IRC:89 1997 :(Molesworth formula)

Afflux H = {(V2/ 17.88) + 0.015} x {(A / A1)2 – 1} = 0.004 m
Velocity of approach=average velocity (Va=V.d/(d+H)) = 0.55 m/s
Head due to velocity of approach (Hva=Va2/2g) = 0.02 m
Total Afflux (Ht=H+Hva) = 0.02 m
Calculated HFL = 610.296
Velocity through vent (Vv=(2gHt)0.5) = 0.613 m/s
Linear waterway required (LWW=Q/(0.9*Vv*d)) = 15.07 m
Taking 1 Span of 15.00 m
Provided linear waterway(L) = 15.00 m

SCOUR DEPTH CALCULATION:

Mean Depth of Scour: dsm = 1.34 (Db 2/ Ksf )1/3
Design discharge Q = 24.78 m3/s
Effective linear Waterway L = 15.00 m
Db = Q / L
... Db = (24.78/15)
1.65 m3 /sec/m.
Ksf = 2.00
dsm = 1.34X(1.65^2/2)^1/3
1.49 m
Max Depth of Scour: For Abutment = 1.37 x dsm
dm= 2.04 m
For Pier = 2.00 x dsm
dm= 2.97 m
