CHAPTER 1

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This project work report is in partial fulfilment of the requirement of for the degree
for Bachelor of Business Studies, Tribhuwan University. To get this project work
done, a student of BBS 3th year should approach a company and have detailed study
of nature, objectives, and operations of the company. With all this in mind, I
approached BANK OF KATHMANDU (BOK) for the purpose of my study.

1.2 OBJECTIVES OF THE REPORT

The primary objective of this project work report is for evaluation by Tribhuwan
University as the partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of BBS. The
study first aims to trace how the Premium Product of Nepal has evolved over the
years and tries to examine the volume of market for premium bank product. It also
tries to analysis the major problems and their underlying causes and tries to find
some measures to improve it that optimize organizations Strength, weakness,
potential opportunities and competitive threats.

Based on the project work assigned to me the objectives of this project work report
can be divided into two categories:

a) General objectives:

1. For the partial fulfillment of the requirement for degree of BBS.

2. To collect the information relating to the bank as much as possible.

b) Specific objectives:

1. To get the overview and volume of market for the premium bank product.

2. To find out market share.

3. To study the market so as to determine the core competitors.

4. To identify and analyze the factors influence to the transaction of premium bank
product.

5. To find out weak point of BOK and analyze the problems in relation to premium
bank product by conducting survey of existing customers of different bank of
Nepal.

6. To come up with possible strategies and marketing programs to attract new and
potential customer in the segment.

1.3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

A systematic methodology is required to pick out and actual result for any special
study. Research means the search for knowledge and methodology refers to various
sequential steps that are adopted in the study. The research methodology adopted for
this study contains various methods and techniques are convenience and appropriate
for analyzing the data and information collected. The research methodology used in
this research includes personal observation, Questionnaire distribution secondary
data collection, annual report and interview.

SOURCES OF DATA

I) Primary Data

I have collected primary data through informal talks with the employees. I got
familiarized with the company by visiting the company several times, which built up
my confidence to ask questions to the personal.

II) Secondary Data

Secondary data are those data that has already been generated by others. Sources of
secondary data for this study include accounting data, sales promotion, internally

generated reports which are found within the company and company’s website. And
sources refers to books, website, publications periodicals, report and statistics gather
and compiled by others prior to study.

1.4 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

A lot of effort has been put to make the study success. However, the following are
the limitations.

 Limited Information: Most of the information was gathered from secondary


sources. Because of the competition and privacy of the Bank’s policy, more
statistical data are not provided, which did not provided the sufficient
information that was needed for conducting the study.

 Geographical Constraint: The project includes study conducted within the


Kathmandu valley only.

 Lack of elaborative knowledge: With relative limited information collected, the


study may not cover other relevant aspect of the topic under study.

 Focus on only limited sample: The sample considered for only various segment
of Customers, which may not be sufficient for generating sufficient result.

 Page limitation.
