BBA
TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT
This is a specialized programme focused on management practices in the context of the
transportation sector. The curriculum offers foundation courses aimed at broadening the
understanding of the transport ecosystem and environmental sustainability, developing
decision making process and enhancing soft skills. Specialised courses covers different
aspects of management practices: finance, marketing and operations.
B.Sc.
TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGY
Meant to prepare a cadre of transportation technologists and specialists, this programme
focusses on technology and its application in the field of transportation. Students are
also offered foundation courses in various fields including critical thinking and writing,
design thinking, data analytics, environmental sustainability, fundamentals of business
and economics to provide a broader perspective. Specialised courses focus on providing
foundation in theories, methods and tools needed to provide solutions to the challenges faced
in driving India’s innovation in intelligent transport systems.

RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEERING
This programme focusses on building a foundation of core fundamental engineering
courses, before developing basic understanding of railway technologies across all key areas
with courses in fluid, solid, thermal, mechanical and electronic systems. In the final year,
specialised courses taught in the field of civil engineering, mechanical engineering and
electrical engineering at Indian Railways’ Centralised Training Institutes are offered to
students.

RAIL SYSTEMS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
This programme trains the students in core fundamental engineering courses during the first
two years. Third year is devoted for developing basic understanding of railway technologies
across all key areas with courses in fluid, solid, thermal, mechanical and electronic systems.
In the final year, specialised courses taught in the field of transport management and signal
engineering & telecommunications at Indian Railways’ Centralised Training Institutes are
offered to students.

MECHANICAL AND RAIL ENGINEERING (at IRIMEE Campus,
Jamalpur)
This programme focusses on building a foundation of core fundamental engineering courses
during the first two years. Third year is devoted for developing basic understanding of
railway engineering across all key areas with courses in materials, tribology, manufacturing
processes, high speed rail systems, and aerodynamics. In the final year, specialised courses
are offered in the field of mechanical and rail engineering . This programme will be offered
at the Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) campus,
Jamalpur.

TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT
This programme focusses on building a strong foundation in theories, methods and tools
needed to design, organise and supervise transportation systems. The programme stresses
effective development of analytical, problem-solving and management skills, with a strong
focus on sustainability. Students will be offered specialised courses in areas such as managing
investments of transportation systems, designing multi-modal transportation models,
intelligent transport systems, environmental impact of transportation systems and traffic
management & control to develop an interdisciplinary perspective. Elective courses will be
offered in the fields of intelligent transportation systems, strategic management of railway
operations, railway business management, business analytics, and safety and reliability.
MBA
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
This programme is designed to equip young professionals with a foundation in theories,
methods, and tools for managerial and analytical skills for design, integration and
coordination of supply chains at multiple levels, bringing innovative and dynamic solutions to
a fast-paced business environment. Specialised courses are offered in areas such as logistics &
warehousing systems, supply chain strategy, freight transportation and revenue management
to develop an interdisciplinary perspective. Elective courses will be offered in the areas of
project management, business management and business analytics.
M.Sc.
TRANSPORT INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND ANALYTICS
The programme builds foundation in theories, methods, and tools for advanced knowledge
of information systems, data science, and analytics in the context of transportation. The
programme will train students with effective qualitative and quantitative skills necessary
for professional, administration and teaching in transportation technology or planning
& management. Specialized courses are offered in the areas of data models & decisions,
information policy, big data and network theory to develop an interdisciplinary perspective.
The elective courses are offered in the fields of business analytics, network theory, data
collection & analysis in transportation models, big data models for transportations systems,
traffic safety and reliability models.

M.Sc.
RAILWAY SYSTEMS ENGINEERING & INTEGRATION
(International degree programme with University of Birmingham, UK
This is a joint master’s programme in railway systems engineering and integration offered
by NRTI and the University of Birmingham, UK. The programme aims at providing a
strong foundation in theories, methods, and tools needed to develop railway engineering
knowledge, systems integration skills and understanding of the complex interactions
between subsystems. Students will obtain two PG qualifications from both the institutions
after spending a year each at both the institutions. The programme is supported by railway
practitioners and will build the ability to work in multi-disciplinary project teams. The
University of Birmingham will offer specialised courses in the areas of strategic management
of railway operations, railway rolling stock systems design, railway traction systems design,
railway control systems engineering and railway business management to develop an
interdisciplinary perspective.

TRANSPORTATION/LOGISTICS
This programme is designed to upscale and mainstream logistics professionals in the field of
Logistics and Supply Chain Management (L&SCM). It aims to bridge the gap between the
supply and demand for skills and technical knowledge in India’s logistics sector.

India is going through a phase of unprecedented growth in infrastructure, particularly related
to transportation. Specific transport infrastructure knowledge and expertise will be required

This programme is designed to build expertise for execution of sustainable and resilient
infrastructure projects.

INTERNSHIPS
First year B.Sc. and BBA students engaged in an 8 week summer internship across 34 railway
divisions.
The objective of the internship was to identify a problem and find a solution using design
thinking and a user centric approach. Students presented the outcomes of their internship to
Indian Railways officials.

• Students participated in Khel Mahakumbh 2019, a sports
tournament organised by the Gujarat government.
• Students attended the 7th PHD Rail Convention in Delhi, which
was organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Railway Board and
highlighted both the current state and future plans of the Indian
Railways.
• Students participated in the International Rail Conference, 2019
in Delhi, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry
in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways. With the
participation of ~6,000 industry leaders, the conference focused on
opportunities for advancing innovation in the Railways through
world-class technology and best-practices.
• Students participated in Chaos, the annual cultural, inter-collegiate
fest of IIM Ahmedabad. A play written, directed and put up by
NRTI students received very good feedback from the judges.
• Students attended the Red Brick Summit at IIM Ahmedabad,
an annual management symposium which comprises a range of
workshops, sessions by eminent speakers, and other events --
aimed at spreading knowledge and ideas about management.
• Students participated in the India Logistics Summit 2019, in
Mumbai. The summit brought together a range of logistics
industry leaders, to foster collaboration and discussion on the
future of the logistics industry in India.

3. Selection to B.Tech. programmes will be based on JEE Mains 2021 scores.

FINANCIAL AID
NRTI offers financial aid for up to 10% of the 2021-22 1st year admissions, for each of the
following family income slabs. These will be extended to all programmes, offered in 2021-22,
with the exception of second year of M.Sc. in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration
(International degree programme with University of Birmingham, UK), offered by UoB.
Financial aid in the 1st year will be based on eligible applicants’ ranking in the NRTI
Entrance test (JEE score for B.Tech. students). 20% of the seats available for financial aid,
under each Slab, are reserved for female candidates.
Financial aid may continue in subsequent years subject to the students meeting the laid down
criteria. Applications will be invited afresh every year.
