Taxi Brief

The Taxi Brief is given after receiving the Taxi Clearance. It must be conducted
with a picture of the Jandakot runway diagram from the Jeppesen. Example for Runway
06L as follows:

Our taxi route will be down the Northern apron towards the Central apron. We will
make a left-hand turn on to the D1 extension. We will take the first major right
hand taxiway to the Bravo 5 run-up bay. We will then taxi along Bravo 4, Bravo 3,
Bravo 2, turn left into Sierra 1 and hold short of runway 06L.

*Good to also practice for Runway 30, it is quite a mouthful! For Rwy 30, you
will request clearance to cross both 06L and 06R for Runway 30 once you are at
holding point Sierra Rwy 06L. JDK Grnd will usually give both clearances at one
shot.

TAXI FROM PARKING AREA TO RUN-UP BAY

Taxi

Begins at 1000 RPM

Once moving, reduce to 800 RPM
Use brakes sparingly
Check brakes (first check is when taxiing out of parking area before turning onto
the Northern Apron. Once done, can hand over to instructor to check his brake
pedals along Northern Apron, before the left hand turn.)
Identify taxiways when approaching a taxiway, call out Taxiway Bravo
identified, slow down a bit and clear right, centre, left for any incoming
traffic.
Always LOOKOUT

ENGINE RUN-UP Checklist Follow checklist

For safety, toe brakes are to remain depressed even with the parking brake set, as
we are revving the engine up to higher rpms.
If youre A/C does not have an ADF (Hotel series), take a peek at your watch to
note the time when you started your engine. Checklist cautions that engine run-up
checks should be conducted 8 mins after start or when engine instruments are in the
green. The ADF has an elapsed timer which can show approximate time since engine
start.

BEFORE TAKE-OFF Checklist Follow checklist

Flight Instruments Check Check airspeed indicator reads 0 KIAS, AH indicates
Wings Level,
Altimeters PFD and Stdby Altimeters are within +- 100ft tolerance of aerodrome
elevation (99 feet).
Standby Flight Instruments Check glass windows are intact, colour markings not
faded. For ASI, reads 0 KIAS, AH is erect and indicates Wings Level (can also
adjust to show slight nose-up aligning with the main AH), Altimeter is
approximately same indication as main Altimeter.

ATC : [callsign], cross runway 06L and taxi to the Northern Apron
Pilot : Cross runway 06L, taxi to Northern Apron, [callsign]

Taxi and park at SFC

When taxiing up to the Northern Apron, remember that it is good airmanship to not
further delay a departing SFC aircraft.
Never taxi the C172 into a parking bay. Always pushback, Ops cadets will be on hand
to assist.
If there are aircraft with beacon lights on in the parking bays, do not taxi in!
Choose another parking bay, or go to the end past the parking bay, make a u-turn
and wait outside the parking area for the a/c to taxi off first.
If youre the last flight and your a/c is designated for night ops, remember to
park it in ALPHA parking bays.

Complete SHUTDOWN Checklist Follow checklist

ENSURE PARKING BRAKE IS RELEASED AND MASTER SWITCH IS OFF BEFORE PUSHING BACK.

AFTER THE FLIGHT

Dip fuel and (for analog) note tachometer hours.

Return keys or pass to next sortie cadet, if passing over, take a picture of the
Journey Log for your postflight. Youll need the ATA and ATD as well as the Tacho
Hours. If its a solo, youll be writing these down on the journey log yourself,
otherwise, your instructor will do so. (even so, double check what the instructor
writes down. Down here, instructor mistakes count as our mistakes also, PIGS go to
you not the instructor!)
Postflight on TMS2, make sure your Technical/Tachometer hours are correct, as well
as other info before saving!!!
Go for debrief with instructor if its a Dual sortie. Due to time constraints, the
instructor may also reschedule your debrief to later in the day or the next day.
FOR MPL CADETS, sign off the Sortie Report, scan and send to your instructors
email acct (they should be in the address book in the photocopier):
For email subject [Sortie Number] [Name]. e.g M101A Ryan Tan
For file name Same as above
File the hardcopy in your personal folder in the Ops Rm
Update your details on the whiteboard
Update Pilot Flying Logbook convert ATD and ATA to GMT/UTC Hours!!
Update Cadet Tracking Hours, and Cadet Progress Excel Sheets on Ops Computers under
JDrive
If last flight of the day, close the Journey Log and pass the MR to DI/Ops Cadets
