Final Project System Analysis Spring 2021

The systems analysis and design project requires students to analyze an existing e-commerce website to identify functions, problems, and limitations. Students will then propose a new system to address the identified issues. The project has two phases: first, students interact with a website and document the functionality and areas for improvement. Second, students analyze models of the current system and design new models for a proposed system that addresses the identified problems. Deliverables include use case descriptions, diagrams, and documentation of system controls.

System Analysis

Final Project
The systems analysis and design project that you choose should meet the
following requirements.

1. The project should address a real life situation. I suggest that you search the
Internet for E-commerce systems that you can use. For example, the following
are good sources:
a) Airline (or train, cruise, concert, or other) ticket purchase
b) Shopping sites on the internet
c) Online banks and financial institutions
d) Online insurance (life, medical, homeowner, and others) purchase
e) Rentals (car, video and others)
f) Online hotel booking
g) Online library…
You can also use any firm of your choice

2. For the firm you have chosen, identify the major functions that a visitor can
perform on the website by navigating through the website. The contents of web
pages that you see will give you limited information. You have to use your
knowledge about the industry/firm/function to identify other data used by the
system.
3. Identify at least two problems or limitations related to the functionality. The
limitations could be new functions that could be useful to a potential customer or
improvements over existing functions. The problems not be related to aesthetics
or speed of the website.
4. Analyze the models and propose a new system.

Phase 1:

Interact with the website to understand the functionality provided by the site.
Identify any problems you encounter in using the site. Note down any
improvements that can be made. The problems and improvements should relate
to the functionality provided by the system. You are requested to develop:

1. A brief description of functionality provided by the website.

2. A System Vision Document (Problem description, system capabilities,
and business benefits)

Phase 2:

Analyze the process, data, and behavior models. Identify new processes, data, and
data flows for the new system. Your new model should be able to eliminate (at
least partially) the problems that you had identified in the current system.
Develop for the new logical model:
1. A preliminary list of use cases (a table) which includes a brief description
showing the main steps in a use case
2. A preliminary list of use cases (a table) which includes the users or actors
for each use case

Choose only one Use-Case to do the following:

1- Provide a “Fully Developed Use Case Description”
2- Develop a Use-Case Diagrams for critical business processes
3- Create a Class Diagram.
4- Develop an Activity Diagram
5- Develop System Sequence Diagram SSD for the major Use Case
6- Use Event Decomposition Technique and specify the different types of
events
7- The design should include the system controls. You should identify at least
five control mechanisms to prevent/detect possible errors that can occur in
the system.

Instructions:
 This project can be done either individually or by group of 2 persons
maximum
