 I. INTRODUCTION

This case study is entitled "The Effects of Decreasing Tourist Rate of Travel

Destinations to the Residents of Burauen due to COVID-19 Restrictions" aims to

understand and know the certain effects brought by COVID-19 specifically in

tourism industry. Beautiful spots have given so much impact to people especially

to the tourists and to the economic growth of a particular place. The decreasing

tourist rate may not only give a huge effect to economic and environmental growth

but to the people who gain a lot of benefits and to the people who wants to travel

in some attractive destinations. It is significant to study this kind of issue in order

to provide ideas and information to people on how really this pandemic give effects

to tourism industry. According to the current study of Department of Tourism,

Philippines, the first quarter of 2020, the period when the travel restrictions and

lockdowns in most countries started, international tourist arrivals declined by 22%

resulting in an estimated loss of US$80 in global tourism receipts. In such period,

97 destinations have totally or partially closed their borders for tourists, 65

destinations have suspended international fights totally or partially, and 39

destinations were implementing the closing of borders.

Tourism is one of the most earning sector in modern industry. But due to

Covid-19 some tourist attractions are required to be temporarily closed because of

health emergency crisis and the increasing rate of new Covid-19 confirmed cases

every single day. People aren't able to travel to the places they want to go to,

because it may affect their safety and health issues. And some travel agencies

suffer from bankruptcy, because they lost a lot of profit which leads them step back.

In concern of health and mental related issues, traveling to the places that people

want to go can actually help in improving and developing their cognitive because

it gives so much peace and satisfaction, although these things are not impossible

to do nowadays, but still, people always need to adjust according to the changes

of situations. This global pandemic changed everything, from how people earn with

their work to how tourism decreased its rate. Moreover, economy, people, and

tourism are well-connected and related to each other, because these three gives

a large role in playing the growth of society. Everyone are affected and this type

issue must not be left behind because it is significant. However, some study

reveals that the tourism industry is the major distributor in terms of being well

known. But since this pandemic came, the tourist rate has dropped and some

people wants to know how it affects to every individual such as, what kind of

situations does people experience right now and how it does affect to their daily

living. Despite of hard situation, some travel agencies and companies still cope up

the needs of their company, some have already open but COVID-19 restrictions

and protocols must always be follow and in some ways it affects people. Back then,

people are free to interact with other people because there was no cautious barrier

between and everyone were free to do according to what they want but now

everything has changed and it is quite hard to adjust, especially to the actions that

people used to do back then. Comparing the situation before and now are very

different, people need to adjust and do what is told in order to maintain everyone's

safety, and it seems like uncomfortable to other people.

The reason why this topic was chosen, is because Burauen, is a spring

capital of Leyte and it is well-known when it comes to the beautiful spots and

beautiful places. There are some outsider people who wants to enter the town

because the beautiful and relaxing resorts are found in Burauen. On the other

hand, residents of Burauen also wants to go to other places and experience

affected with the pandemic, but the concern of this study is to know the effects of

the situation to the people of Burauen. Another is to gather significant data that will

help everyone in knowing the certain effects of decreasing tourist rate of travel

destinations to the people particularly Burawanons.

This study will require enough time to have a good outcome. The 20

respondents are random people of Burauen, and is provided with various

questions related to the problem with the use of survey questionnaires that will be

done through online process with the help of certain media platform. Whatever the

result and outcome is, the data gathered will undergo to a clear process and if lack

of needs will be found, it is necessary to provide some suggestions.

 II. PROBLEM STATEMENT

The objective of this study is to know the Effects of Decreasing Tourist Rate

of Travel Destinations to the Residents of Burauen due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The researcher aims to know the answers of the following questions.

1. What are the effects of decreasing tourist rate of travel destinations to the

residents of Burauen due to covid-19 restrictions?

2. In what way does covid-19 pandemic affect the people of Burauen and

tourism industry?

3. How does the decreasing tourist rate affect the economic growth of

Burauen?

 III. FINDINGS/ DATA ANALYSIS

The Effects of Decreasing Tourist Rate of Travel Destinations to the

Residents of Burauen due to Covid-19 Restrictions has actually arise several times

and became largely decreasing and more serious because of pandemic. The main

cause of this problem is the current situation that people are experiencing right

now and the primary affected are those individuals who are involved in some travel

and tourism agencies. Obviously the constraints of the issue are the covid-19

restrictions and there’s no specific opportunities for affected individuals. According

to the data gathered from chosen respondents, the certain effects regarding to this

issue are the following:

1. The Effects of Decreasing Tourist Rate of Travel Destinations to the

Community of Burauen.

gathered the effect of decreasing tourist of travel destinations to the community of

Burauen is it affects people especially those individuals who works in resort and

travel agencies.

2. The Effects of Covid-19 Pandemic to the Travel Goals of People in

Burauen.

Figure 1.2 shows the answer of respondents, and according to the data

gathered the effect of covid-19 pandemic to the travel goals of people in Burauen

is they wasn’t able to travel because they don’t want to sacrifice their health and

safety.

 Figure 1.3 shows the answer of respondents, and according to the data

gathered the effect of decreasing tourist rate to the economic growth of Burauen,

could be in some financial aspect.

4. The Effects of Decreasing of Travel Destinations to the Residents of

Burauen due to Covid-19 Restrictions

of Burauen due to covid-19 restrictions is it affects business (e.g., resort,

transportation services and restaurants)

 5. Number of people who are still willing to travel around the town

despite of increasing covid cases.

Figure 1.5 shows the answer of respondents, and according to the data

gathered none of the respondents are willing to travel around the town in this time

of pandemic.

 IV. CONCLUSION

Based on the analysis of the results in the findings, the following conclusions

are drawn.

1. The effects of decreasing tourist rate of travel destinations to the residents of

Burauen due to covid-19 restrictions is it affects business (e.g., resort,

transportation services and restaurants). Another is it affects people especially

those individuals who works in resort and travel agencies.

2. People in Burauen wasn’t able to travel and unable to accomplish their travel

goals because they don’t want to sacrifice their health and safety. And with this

aspect it affects the tourist rate of Burauen.

3. Majority of the respondents said that the effects of decreasing tourist rate to the

economic growth of Burauen, may refer to some financial aspects.

 V. RECOMMENDATIONS

 Use social media as a tool- in order to solve the decreasing tourist rate of

travel destinations, the higher officer of Burauen should help the tourism

department in featuring the various travel destinations found in town. And

by that way, people from other places may become interested to visit

Burauen.

 Upgrade and have a promo- the department of tourism may ask the

government for fund that will be used in upgrading certain places. And

having a promo to tourists is a perfect way to catch their attention.

 Secure everyone’s safety- since the pandemic came, people are afraid to

travel, and it is necessary for some businesses to have a perfect rule in

securing the safety of everyone. This will be done by proper managing.
