Information related to Admission of Part-Time students to the
Doctoral Programme (II Semester 2020 – 2021)

A Candidate seeking “Part-Time” admission should:

• Work in an organization which encourages and facilitates research.


• Meet the requisite minimum qualification for admission to Ph. D programme of BITS Pilani.
• Have a minimum of one year work experience in related field.
• Furnish a "Consent & No Objection Certificate" from his/her parent organization in a
prescribed format (provided at the end of this document)

Minimum eligibility criteria for admissions:

• M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm./MBA/M.Phil. or an equivalent Degree with a minimum of 60%


aggregate in the qualifying examination.
• M.Sc./B.E./B.Pharm. or an equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate in the
qualifying examination
• For admissions to Humanities and Social Sciences, candidates with an M.A. degree and a
minimum of 55% aggregate may apply.

Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission into the PhD programme.
In addition, Departments may set specific admission criteria for shortlisting. Shortlisted
candidates will have to appear for an admission test, which may comprise of a written exam
and/or interview. Candidates admitted with qualifications like M.Sc., B.E., B.Pharm., M.A. etc.,
will be required to do course work on admission to the programme.

Not all Departments across the campuses of BITS Pilani are likely to admit 'Part-time' students.
Departmental openings with regard to 2020 – 2021 2nd Semester “Part-Time” student admission
into the Doctoral programme are available in the PhD admission brochure. General admission

Financial Assistance:

Financial assistance is not provided to the candidates under PhD Part Time programme.

It is mandatory for interested part-time candidates to obtain all necessary permissions from
his/her employer. Admission will be made by following the same process of selection as that for
full-time candidates. All existing academic regulations that apply to full-time students admitted to
the Doctoral programme will be also applicable to part-time PhD students, unless specifically
mentioned otherwise.

PhD course work for Part-time candidates:

Course work is decided by the Department based on the background of the candidate and whether he or
she will work in an area of research different from his background. Candidate may contact the respective
Department HOD for required information. The number of courses to be taken will again depend on the
background and/or area of research of the candidate. General guidelines for coursework may be noted:

(i) A candidate is having a UG Degree equivalent to the First Degree of BITS Pilani i.e. BE, BPharm MSc:
candidate will need to do coursework which typically is spread across 2 Semesters.

(ii) A candidate is having a Higher Degree of BITS Pilani like ME, MPharm, MBA etc. may need to do
coursework of one or two semester duration (to be decided by the concerned Department at the time of
interview).

In both cases, the course offered will be at the discretion of the Department. Coursework will have to be
done on-campus. Off-campus coursework is not permitted.

*Format for obtaining “Consent & No Objection Certificate” from employer (To be
submitted on official stationary of organization along with application form)
