Difference Between HSRP, VRRP and GLBP Protocols

HSRP, VRRP, and GLBP are layer 3 protocols that provide default gateway redundancy for traffic. HSRP is Cisco proprietary, VRRP is an open standard, and GLBP is again Cisco proprietary. The main differences between them are their scope, standard, layer of operation, load balancing capabilities, multicast addresses, and timers. VRRP elects a Master Router based on highest priority and IP address, while HSRP and GLBP elect an Active Router.

priority) IOS will manage to make the VRRP router with the real IP, the master, by setting its priority to 255, knowing that the
configurable range is [1-254].
