Week 2
*Compounding is joining to or more words together to make them one word with a new meaning. This
new meaning of the compound word may be the same as the individual meaning of its component
words or may be different.

*Compound words may be closed (written as one), open (written with space between words) or
hyphenated (connected by a hyphen)

Day 1
Circle the compound word in each sentence.

Suffixes, sometimes called postfixes, are words ending that add a certain meaning to the word. They also
change the function or speech part of the based words.

A prefix is a word part or syllable that is added at the beginning or before the root word to form a new word. It
changes the meaning. Prefixes dis, in, un, and im mean not, Re means again or back.

sentence. These clues may be a synonym or antonym of that clipped word.
