SMART GRID
FOUNDATION
COURSE
07 July - 14 August 2021
ONLINE
The 21st century electric grid is witnessing several disruptive changes. A er 100 years of centralized power generation and
creation of massive electric grids, the shi is now towards de-centralized generation. In the recent past we are witnessing
increasing share of renewable generation resources are being added at the low voltage or distribution segment of the grid
which is a major transformational change to the electric grid. The traditional boundaries between Generation, Transmission
and Distribution are fast disappearing and the grid is evolving as an integrated grid. Smart Grid technologies have emerged as
the key enablers for both integration of distributed and variable renewable energy resources as well as electric vehicles. The
widespread deployment of smart grids is crucial to achieving a more secure and sustainable energy future as well as
addressing current concerns with existing electricity systems, such as ageing infrastructure and increasing peak demands.
Smart Grids have also emerged as the critical enabling infrastructure for all flagship programs for Government of India (GoI)
such as 24x7 Power for All, 100 Smart Cities, 450 GW of Renewable Energy by 2030, National Mission on Electric Mobility with a
target of 6-7 million Electric Vehicles etc.
In the evolving grid of the future, digital technologies will play the crucial role for the stable grid operations. The high-voltage
transmission grid in India already deploys advanced automation and digital technologies and the electricity distribution
companies have also embarked on their digital journey through several programs promoted by the Ministry of Power (MoP),
Government of India. The lockdowns owing to COVID-19 around the world have dramatically changed the way we work and live
in a short span. The operations and work environment of electric (and other) utilities have also changed in the last one year.
ISGF has been spearheading the movement towards digitalization of utilities in India. Although, the actual implementation in
many utilities may still be not satisfactory, there is already a unanimous voice for taking this journey to full digitalization. In the
a ermath of COVID-19, these digital platforms have become the coveted assets for utilities in their business continuity and
resiliency. ISGF has created the platform to bring together experts from government, utilities, industry, academia and research
as well as regulators to build support for smart grid policies and programs in India. The industry and utilities have time and
again raised concerns about the dearth of trained people and knowledge gap among the workforce in the fast-changing
technology domains. In order to successfully implement new programs, it is necessary to create a pool of talented and skilled
manpower. Towards this objective one of the mandates of ISGF is to conduct training and capacity building programs in the
area of grid modernization.
With this background ISGF is pleased to announce Smart Grid Foundation Course from 07 July to 14 August 2021. This
course has been developed as a unique program on Smart Grids that will help to understand the new technologies, its
relevance, potential and challenges for grid modernization. This program will enable the participants to play a critical role in
the Smart Grid development in their organisations.
