RESEARCH METHODOLGY
Research in common parlances refers to a search for knowledge. Once can also define research as a
scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on specific topic. In fact, research is an art of
scientific investigation. Research may be defined as a careful investigation or inquiry especially through
search for new facts in any branch of knowledge. In short it comprises defining and redefining problems,
formulating hypothesis or suggested solution; collecting; organizing and evaluating data; making
deductions and reaching conclusions; and last carefully testing the conclusions to determine whether they
fit the hypothesis. Research methodology is a way to systematically solve the research problem.
The scope of the study is to get the first hand knowledge about the various determinants of human
relation management.
The research design is a pattern or an outline of a research project’s working, it is a statement of only the
essential elements study, those that provide the basic guidelines for the details of the project. Further a
research design is an arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims
to combine relevance to the research purpose with economy in procedure. It constitutes the blueprint for
collection, measurement and analysis of data. Research design stands for advance planning of the
methods to be adopted for collecting the relevant data and the techniques to be used in their analysis,
keeping in view of the objectives of the research.
The present study, being conducted, followed a descriptive design. It produces a picture of the
phenomenon in which the decision maker is interested. As the data would be responses from a sample
containing large number of source. Design of descriptive studies includes the nature and source of the
data, the nature of expected results and the analytical method.
The research design for my research is descriptive, as I will be describing the effect of various
determinants of Emotional intelligence on college students.
3.3 Data collection
For my research study the data has been collected by both the primary & secondary means. The primary
data has been collected regarding the different attributes to be considered while preparing the
questionnaire. The questionnaire was then designed keeping in mind the objectives of the study. The
primary data has been collected from different investor’s through a well structured questionnaire. The
secondary data has been collected from journals, text books, internet etc.
Sampling is an effective step in the collection of primary data and has a great influence on the quality of
results. The sampling design includes the universe, population, sample size and sampling technique.
3.4.1 Universe
Universe refers to all the eligible respondents for a particular research around the world. The universe for
my research is all the college students of the world.
3.4.2 Population
Population refers to part of universe from which the sample for conducting the research is selected. The
population for my research is all the students of PCTE and GNIMT, Ludhiana.
Sampling unit is the single unit of the population. In my study the sampling unit is any single student of
PCTE and GNIMT, Ludhiana.
A sample technique is a definite plan for obtaining a sample from a given population. It refers to the
technique or the procedure the researcher would adopt in selecting items for the sample. The selection of
the respondents was done on the basis of convenience and snowball technique based on the non
probability method of sampling.
Sample size is the size of sample drawn from the population which is the true representative of the
research. The number of respondents included in the study was 100.
Data Analysis & Interpretation – Classification & tabulation transforms the raw data collected
through questionnaire in to useful information by organizing and compiling the bits of data
contained in each questionnaire i.e., observation and responses are converted in to understandable
and orderly statistics are used to organise and analyse the data.
For the analysis of primary data the statistical tools which are used are percentage, mean score.
Bar diagrams are also used.
Some of the respondents were not willing to give information, so some of the data may
be biased.
Sample may not be the true representative of the universe.
