m06 Beyond The Basic Prductivity Tools Lesson Idea
Guiding Question(s):
What country am I from? Did I move from another country? Do I want to move to another country?
What state do I currently live in? Did I move from another state or a different part of the state? Is
there any state I want to live in or wish not to?
What city do I live in? Did I move from another city or a different part of the state? What is my
favorite part of the city and why?
Do I know my address? Do I know the name of the street? Could I make a map from my house to the
school?
Selected Technology Tool: Genial.ly will be used to help students create an interactive artifact about
where they live or where they are from.
☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or
Choice” during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.
☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is
student-driven and student-led. Students should have “Voice and Choice” in the activities,
selecting the topic of study and determining the technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the
standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☒ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student

work and promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s
morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Your student’s projects must be shared locally or globally to meet this level.
I think that Genial.ly will be able to support all students because all the different ways they offer
to present material. The presentation methods and templates have a range of difficulty. Some of
them are more minimal, while others can be complex. Genial.ly enhances student learning by allows
the students to present material in a creative while allowing the students to add tools to their
toolbelt. The activity allows students to explore and showcase the world around them. By
researching the location of the students choosing, they will be accessing several different types of
material to learn. The students might look up pictures, watch videos or listen to an audio book about
their specific location. The Genial.ly flatform allows the students to engage themselves and others to
the work there are producing. On Genia.ly, you can add text, pictures, and videos to you page(s) to
make the material more interesting to view.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher’s role in this lesson is to be facilitator. I review the difference between a map and
globe using the Genial.ly I created to build on the student’s knowledge. I will discuss what criteria
needs to be included in the assignment. Lastly, I will explain how to navigate Genial.ly. I will be
monitoring the classroom in case the students need more support as they explore Genial.ly and
conduct research. The student’s role in this lesson is to become teachers and have a more authentic
role in their learning.
The lesson will be introduced by reviewing information about globes and maps by using a
Genial.ly presentation. The presentation will provide educational information and serve as an
example of what the students can create. The guided questions will be covered after the
presentation. The guided questions will be used as suggested prompts to support the ideas of the
students. I want start with a broader scoop and allow the student to narrow the focus as they use
Genial.ly to tell a story of where they come from or currently live. To conclude the lesson, each
student must share with the class something new they learned while working on their project.
Students will be assessed on whether they included the required information, accurate
information and how they presented the information. The student’s final Genial.ly creation will be
posted on the classroom blog. By posting the student’s artifacts, it allows students to reach a higher
learning level. The students will be able to share their work with others. By student’s sharing their
work, they can teach other students about new places or build on prior knowledge.
Reflective Practice:
I think the activity will impact student learning by allowing the students to explore the
environment they live and make connections to their culture in the process. I believe that this
geography lesson can be a gateway to start talking about other topics such as the diversity in
American culture. As people, where we are from and where we live has as an impact on who we
are, and I think that this lesson can help students start building more meaningful connection on their
identity.
To extend this lesson, I think that students should have the option to create an artifact about a

place they might want to travel. With this option, students would be about to research about the
country, state or city and learn more about the place before visiting and share their finding. If some
students are finding Genial.ly difficult to use, they can use PowerPoint has a tool to assist them. The
students can work on PowerPoint and upload links or pages to their Genial.ly creations if necessary. I
understand that learning to navigate new tools can be difficult.
