1. Answer all the questions in several paragraphs.

a) Define direct tax and by using diagrams, explain three (3) types of tax structures.

b) Revenues collected by the government are received from various sources. Explain
two (2) main sources of revenue based on the conventional perspective and two (2)
from the Islamic perspective.
Two (2) main sources of revenue based on the conventional perspective are Tax Revenue
which is a compulsory contribution that is imposed by the government on private individuals
and organizations and Non-Tax Revenue are revenues which arise from other sources besides
tax. Two (2) main sources of revenue based on the Islamic perspective are Zakat which is the
prime source of an Islamic economy and Taxation the Islamic state has a right to impose
taxes, as the Islamic government is responsible for ensuring that the basis needs of its citizens
are met in accordance with the socioeconomic status of the country. Taxation is a major
source of revenue for the government.
