ESSAY WRITING:

ESSAY:

A literary composition on any subject usually in prose and short

 It is a brief and fragmentary attempt which expresses a problem

in terms of one’s personality.
 It is something personal and direct.
 The subject doesn’t matter what really matter is the thought
should be clearly expressed.
 The essay has been defined a “a lyric in prose” since lyric
expresses personal feelings and sentiments.
1. The essay is a short literacy composition.
2. It states the problem from an individual point of view.
3. It is light and pleasant in tone.
The requirement of essay writing:
 Choice of subject

Often you have a number of subject given to you out of you are
required to choose one which on which to write. In the
examination room where time is limited, choose the subject you
know best, the subject on which you have most information then
can arrange the matter clearly and effectively.

 Information
For essay writing one has to posse’s information. Information
on the topics can be gathered from books by observation and
listening and talking to men who knows.
 Reading
In order to write an essay the student must have something to
write about so he must store his mind with ideas by reading. As
well-known essayist Bacon has said “Reading market a full
man, conference a ready man and writing an exact man.”
 Observation
But reading is not everything .As the student reads, he must
also observe .As mostly descriptive writing is one of the most
difficult forms of composition and a student cannot gain
mastery in this art if he doesn’t learn to observe what goes on
around him or to look with pleasure on Nature beauty.
 Thinking
The best method of making a student think is to arouse his
interest. He should learn to ask questions about what he has
read; disagree with the author if his views are not convincing.
He should not accept every foolish thing he sees in the print.
However he needs to be able to evaluate the thing in the light of
truth and reasoning.
 Practice

It is said mostly practice makes the man perfect. Therefore,

students should write as frequently as possible for no one can
write well who does not write often. One must think before he
writes. Students must be careful in his thought and make it
point to avoid the same mistakes again and again.

STRACTURE OF AN ESSAY

 Unity:
 The essay is divided into paragraphs in the same manner as the
paragraph is divided into sentences. There should be unity of
design in the essay considered as a whole in its parts. The unity
only possible by limiting the easy to one subject only. The
irrelevant matter should be taken out from the main theme. If
the title is ‘the Educational Value of the Cinema’ then should
focused on it rather wondering on the Growth of Cinema.
 Coherence
The ideas expressed in the essay should be joined together
logically. In other words one should pay great attention to the
arrangement of his thoughts otherwise essay will be incoherent.
The paragraphs and thoughts both should be connected to each
other in a logical order. An essay is like a chain in which the
various paragraphs are joined together. It must not give the
impression that consists of disconnected and incoherent
paragraphs.
 Proportion and Balance:

The design of the essay will be useless if proper proportion is not there between its
various parts. Good attention should be given to avoid wandering from the topic
oYou may have your topic assigned, or you may be given freedom to write on the
subject of your choice. If you are given the topic, you should think about the type
of paper that you want to produce. Should it be a general overview of the subject
or a specific analysis? Once you have determined the purpose, you will need to do
some research on topics that you find. Think about your life. What is it that
interests you? Jot these subjects down.

Finally, evaluate your options. If your goal is to educate, choose a subject that
you have already studied. If your goal is to persuade, choose a subject that
you are passionate about. Whatever the mission of the essay, make sure that
you are interested in your topic.

2. Prepare an outline or diagram of your ideas.

In order to write a successful essay, you must organize your thoughts. By
taking what’s already in your head and putting it to paper, you are able to see
connections and links between ideas more clearly. This structure serves as a
foundation for your paper. Use either an outline or a diagram to jot down
your ideas and organize them.

If you prefer to create an outline, write your topic at the top of the page. From
there, begin to list your main ideas, leaving space under each one. In this
space, make sure to list other smaller ideas that relate to each main idea.
Doing this will allow you to see connections and will help you to write a more
organized essay..

3. Write your thesis statement.

When topic is chosen and sorted your ideas into relevant categories by creating a
thesis statement. The thesis statement tells the readers about the point of your
essay.

The thesis statement will have two parts. The first part states the topic and the
second part states the point of the essay. As mobile and its effect on children then
thesis statement would be mobile has impact on the mentality of children.

4. Write the body.

the body of your essay argues, explain and describe your topic .Each main idea that
you write in outline will become a separate section within the body of your essay.

Each body paragraph should have the similar basic structure. After writing the
main ideas as the introductory sentence then write each of your supporting ideas in
sentence format.

5. Write the introduction.

After writer developed the thesis and overall body of his body of essay then an
introduction must be written. The introduction should have the power of attracting
the readers and show the focused on of essay.

Y You can use shocking information, dialogue, a story, a quote, or a simple

summary of your topic. Be sure that it must tie in with your thesis statement which
include as the last sentence of your introduction.

6. Write the conclusion:

The conclusion sumps up the overall ideas while providing a final perspective on
your topic. It should consist of three to five strong sentences. Simply it must give a
review to main points and thesis statement.
