ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS


1 You need to achieve a ‘Competent’ grade in ALL the assessments items to be granted a ‘Competent’ grade
in the EAW5 PYP module.
2 In case you are not able to achieve a ‘Competent’ grade in any assessment task, you will be given three
(3) attempts to resubmit your assessment. Your trainer will be available to assist you in any areas of
difficulty. Please discuss the assessment with your trainer to seek advice on how you can achieve
competency in the module.
3 Where relevant, oral questions may be asked to gather more information on your knowledge, skills and
competence in the module.
4 A holistic approach is used to assess your skills relevant to this qualification. The skills are assessed across
the different units offered within this qualification. Where a skill relevant to this module is not assessed
within this assessment pack, please note that the skill will be assessed in another module.
5 Your assessment responses must be your own work and plagiarism and/or copying from another student
will not be tolerated. Any information that you take directly from another source to support your own
work must be referenced.

Assessment 3 - Observation
Your trainer needs to observe you demonstrating the essential interviewing skills in a simulated environment.
These skills can be observer during presentation.

Instructions: You will be participating in four job interviews; however you will only be assessed in your final job
interview with your trainer who will act as the interviewer and you will be the candidate. To prepare for that final
interview, each interview will be slightly different.
Interview 1. One on One Interview You will pair up with another student. You will be interviewed by
your classmate with no preparation time, they will ask you a list of questions and provide you with
individual feedback after the interview. You will also be asked to self-reflect on how you performed
during the interview. Please write below the improvements that you and your classmate identified.
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes duration per person 12 minutes interview + 3 minutes feedback.

Interview 2. Group/Technical interview You will now allocated into new groups of 4. You will be
required to locate a job advertisement in your chosen industry, and this will form the basis of your
interview with your trainer and the interview panel (4 classmates). This will be a group interview and
you can be asked any question at any time by the interview panel. To prepare for this interview you
must supply the interview panel and your trainer a copy of the job ad 20 minutes prior to the interview.
Your trainer will be an observer. You may be asked the following:
 Technical questions relating to the ad, E.g. software/operating systems/accounting knowledge
used etc.
 Questions relating to key selection criteria.
 Questions about the company and the role.

The group (minus candidate), will also need to discuss prior to the interview:
 What questions will be asked? (Group to create a range of technical, essential key criteria,
Organisational and role questions)
 How many questions will be asked? A minimum of 12 questions will required.
 Who will ask those questions?
 Will there be impromptu questions?

Interview 2 Group/Technical Interview

Interview 3 Stress Interview This will be a challenging interview as your trainer will be asking you some
difficult questions. Your trainer will try to put you under pressure and your challenge will be to remain
as calm as possible. Your trainer may ask you:
 Illegal questions
 Questions about why you might be unsuitable for the role or company
 Out of the box questions
 Respond to your answers negatively
 Appear bored and not make eye contact
 Interrupt your answers

This style of interview while it may be difficult it is designed to prepare you in the future to respond in a
calm yet assertive manner should you be asked any of these questions.
Duration: Approximately 10 minutes interview + 2 minutes feedback per person. Please complete the
interview review below.

Interview 4 The Final Interview This will be a one on one interview with your trainer. Your trainer will
use the following criteria to assess your performance in the interview. Your trainer will use a specific list
of questions but will also include some questions based from the job interview you provided for
interviews 3 & 4.

Seeks clarification when necessary
Relates work skills and abilities to position
Gives relevant specific examples in answers
Structures answers well (uses STAR)
Uses appropriate language (not too informal, but not overly formal or wordy,
and sounds like spoken English, not something written and memorised)

Once the interview is completed you will need to verbally reflect on your performance and will be
provided written feedback from your trainer on an interview grading sheet.
You then need to attach this interview grading sheet as part of this assessment.
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes duration per person 12.5 minutes interview + 2.5 minutes
feedback.
