The week 2 discussion question has asked us to review six peer reviewed articles about

Writer’s Block which we will be using in our upcoming professional assignment. As reference to

justify my PA1 assignment, I have used the following articles:

An Analysis of Writer’s Block: Causes, Characteristics, and Solutions: The motive of the

article is to list the factors that causes writer’s block, its characteristics and how one can

overcome this situation. In simple terms writer’s block is the situation where an individual is not

able to write new contents or is not able to add on to the existing content[ CITATION Ahm19 \l 1033

]. According to the article, the major causes of writer’s block are: stress, anxiety, distraction, lack

of interest. This article also suggests the ways to overcome this problem by planning their write

up before starting to write, discussing the ideas with other people which helps in gaining more

perspective, changing writing locations, meditating.

I will be using this article in my PA1 to discuss the causes and the solutions to writer’s

block.

“Challenges in Writing”-The Writer’s Block: This article introduces the concept of writer’s

block and how it feels to have writer’s block along with its symptoms and strategies to manage

writer’s block. Writer’s block exists in one’s mind and a person can win over it by training

themselves and through hard work[ CITATION Chi14 \l 1033 ]. The article also suggests that it

should rather be called idea block than writer’s block as it is the situation in which the writer

experiences lack of idea to write down.

Including this article in my PA1 will help me define the myths of writer’s block and different

strategies that a working professional can use to avoid this situation.

real life experience of working professionals who are unable to meet their deadlines due to

writer’s block. The major finding of the article is that writer’s block wastes the time and

decreases the productivity which can be regarded as a crisis in business writing. Business

professionals need to write reports, letters, memos, advertisements, employee

evaluations[ CITATION Rae86 \l 1033 ]. The article suggests to provide seminars on writing

improvement for employees which will help increases their productivity.

As the PA1 has asked us to write down the steps to overcome the writer’s block for the staffs, I

will be writing down the strategies to use to help the staffs deal with writer’s block from this

article.

Resolving Writer’s Block: The article summarizes the reason of why writer’s block occur and

ways to solve this problem. The article presents the symptoms of writer’s block i.e. unable to add

up to the writing or not being able to write new sentences. Writer’s block can range from mild,

moderate and intractable[ CITATION Hus98 \l 1033 ]. Once a person has difficulty in writing they

should look for solutions to it. It can be solved by working in groups where there is

brainstorming and one can get many ideas, starting the write up long before deadline which

decreases the stress and helps the mind think better.

The solutions from this articles will be used in the PA1 as the assignment has asked us to write

down the ways to deal with writer’s block. So, I will be using this article in the upcoming PA to

write down the ways to overcome writer’s block.

purpose of this article is to list the factors that causes writer’s block in academic writing. Most of

the students face this problem[ CITATION Hor15 \l 1033 ]. Mostly students procrastinate which

leads them to doing their write up at the last hour which decreases their productivity and the rush

of meeting the deadline brings the situation of writer’s block where they are not able to add up

words to their writings.

I will be using this article in the upcoming PA1 to discuss how people land in the situation of

writer’s block and how they could have avoided this situation.

Overcoming Writer’s Block: Principles and Practices for Language Classrooms: The

article explores the two primary reasons behind Writer’s block. The first reason is when the

person writing is conscious about the correctness of the write up and the second reason is when

the person is not comfortable with the subject or has no idea of the subject that they have to write

about[ CITATION HSU14 \l 1033 ]. Some ways to overcome this situation is by practicing free

writing which helps in sharpening the writing skills.

This article will be used in the upcoming PA1 to discuss the reasons why people experience

writer’s block and to suggest the ways to overcome it.

Industry Example

Relating to the points mentioned above, I can use the example of J.K. Rowling who is the author

of the bestselling book Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling admitted to have experienced writer’s block

when writing the fifth book of Harry Potter. She had finished all her four books in four years

taking a year for each book but for the fifth book she had to take some time as she could not

figure out what to write and she had to write the fifth book over and over again. She was also
stressed due to a law suit which is one of the reason behind her writer’s block experience. So, she

went on a vacation, took some time to relax and then started writing which worked for her and as

all her books, the fifth part of the book was also the bestselling book of all time. She still thinks

that there are so many rooms for improvement for that fifth book if she had more time.

Nevertheless it’s not only business people or students who experience writer’s block even the

famous writers experience it.

To sum up, all the above articles discuss about writer’s block, its causes, characteristics

and ways to overcome it. After reviewing all these articles now I have the understanding of

dealing with writer’s block whenever I experience it.
