3 Black Ground* -
Ground
1. The red wire connects to constant 12/24VDC and should not switch off during engine crank. Do not use
accessory as in some vehicles it disconnects during engine crank. Verify the 12/24VDC signal by using a
voltmeter and measuring voltage during engine crank.
2. The white wire goes to the ignition and should maintain 12/24VDC when starting the engine and when
engine is running. Ensure that it goes to 0V when engine is shut off. On some vehicles ignition does not
return to 0V immediately after engine is turned off which can lead to incorrect readings. Ensure that it
does go to 0V within 15 seconds of engine shutoff.
3. The black wire is ground and should be securely fastened to the chassis of the vehicle.
4. The blue wire is optional and can be connected to a PTO or any type of sensor that has a signal level of
0VDC – 24VDC and can be programmed to interpret a “0” VDC signal as an “off” or as an “on”. Contact
your rep for more information on this.
5. The green wire is optional and can be used for starter disable or to power an external relay. This
output goes to “0” VDC when triggered on and floats when off. Contact your rep for more information
on this.
Installation:
Verify Power, Ground and Ignition. Be sure to check each source (power, ground and ignition) to ensure
that the proper signaling exists. This is typically accomplished with a multimeter. Before drilling any holes
or running any wires, decide where the hardware & any accessories needs to be located. Make sure that
the modem is kept free from direct exposure to the elements (sun, heat, rain, moisture etc...).
Location:
The best location to install the modem is above the instrument cluster underneath the dash. This provides
the modem a clear signal view of the sky through the windshield. The modem can receive a signal through
glass, plastic, fiberglass & fabric type materials. If mounting above the instrument cluster is not possible
find a place that it can be secured underneath the dash as close to the windshield as possible. IT DOES
NOT GET SIGNALS UNDERNEATH OR IN METAL. Mounting the modem underneath a large piece of metal
or in a metal box/container will prevent it from working.
Make sure to mount modem so that it faces the sky. Unit will be labelled using the “ESN”.
Connections:
Ensure that all connections are soldered. The use of crimping devices are not recommended as they can
lead to corrosion and can become loose over time due to vibration and stress.
Wiring Examples:
The modem provides an external input (Input 1 Blue) that can be directly connected to most vehicle level
logical inputs 0-24VDC. This input may be used to sense vehicle inputs such as door sensors, PTO( power
take off) or any input that can have a 0V or 24V signal. Programming can accommodate a 0V representing
an on or an off, or 24VDC representing an on or an off.
The modem also has an output (output 1 Green) that can be used to power a starter disable relay or other
accessory (less than 100mA). This output normally floats and is tied to Ground when triggered.
Diagnostic LED Definitions:
Alternates from slow to fast blinking once per Network is connected but waiting for
second acknowledgement from servers
When initially powering up the GPS unit both the Green and the Orange LED’s will blink. After a few minutes
both the Orange & Green LED’s should be solid. If the installation is being done in a covered area the Green
LED might continue to blink as it has not received a GPS Fix. Once the GPS unit is located outside the Green
LED should stop blinking and go solid indicating that is has acquired a GPS Fix.
Installation of this device should only be done by a qualified Technician, failure to do so may
result in vehicle damage, personal injury or death.
