Leed Script

The document discusses the argument that standardized testing should be abolished. It presents perspectives from a group that believes standardized exams have negatively impacted students in several ways. The group provides three main reasons for their position: 1) Exams are a frequent source of stress for students due to pressure to perform well. 2) Exams can undermine students' self-efficacy and sense of self-worth. 3) Exam scores do not adequately prepare students for their future careers and working lives. Each group member then presents on one of the three main points against standardized testing.

“If my future were determined just by my performance on a

standardized test, I wouldn’t be here. I can guarantee you that.” This

is what Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States of
America once said. She is trying to state that people cannot just
judge their whole intelligence on one test. Standardized tests are
administered, scored, and compared to thousands of other students’
scores. The standardized portion in standardized testing exists so
that people’s individual differences can be more apparent. The
purpose is to tell the school what the students have learned and
compare it to other schools. While standardized tests help the
teacher know where their class might be or where to improve, are
they really beneficial to the students?

Therefore, in this presentation, we from group 3 are of the view that

examination or standardized testing should be abolished as it has
impacted students in various ways.

My name is siti sarah and these are my group members, amani and amirah.

We believed that examination should be abolished because first, it is

a frequent source of stress for students. Second, examination leads
students to undermine their self-efficacy and lastly, examination is
not an adequate preparation for student’s working life.

This is the overview of our presentation. Introduction and main point

1 will presented by me, siti sarah. Second main point will be
presented by amani and the third main point will be presented by
amirah. Conclusion will be presented by both amirah and amani.
So, first off, examination as a tool for assessment has killed the true
essence of education as students are socialized to value grades,
sometimes more than learning. Since most schools, universities, and
colleges have set their requirements for admission, learning in recent
times is all about achieving good results to move to the next level in
life instead assimilating knowledfe. Students are more likely to invest
a disproportionate amount of commitment and effort in
examinations as acquiring knowledge is no longer the ultimate goal,
but examination results are (Henry et. al, 2014).

This is due to the fact that having straight A’s is considered as the
main characteristic of a good, smart student. However, are grades or
GPA really what defines one’s intellect? In this sense, examination-
oriented education has ignored the fact that every individual is
unique, that everybody learns at a different pace, and that different
people excel in different areas. Hence, it does not really achieve the
education goal, particularly the Sustainable Development Goal 4,
which seeks to promote lifelong learning and ensure inclusive and
quality education for all.

Campbell (2017) identified about 100 people under the age of 25

commit suicide every year, and among those who commit suicide in
the year 2014 and 2015, academic pressure resulting from
examinations is believed to be the cause of death. If being ignored,
issues associated with examinations will definitely get worse over
time. And it will definitely leaves a negative impact on multiple
aspects of students’ lives. Therefore, it is believed that examinations
are less relevant in today’s education system and should be
abolished as it is an unnecessary cause of stress for students, makes
them undermining their self-efficacy, and jeopardizing their career
development.
Moving on to the first reason why we believe examination should be
abolished. It is none other than the fact that is created a lot of
unnecessary stress for students. This stress is frequently caused by
pressure from their environment, that puts a high emphasis on
academic achievement and expects them to excel. In this regard, as
mentioned by Kumari & Jain, 2014), students are under constant
pressure for top-notch academic results to meet the extremely high
academic demands and requirements, hence putting such
extraordinary stress on them. It is a widely held view that students
w.

Due to academic commitments, students had to sacrifice their sleep

in order to have extra hours for studying and workload. Poor
sleeping habits like having an irregular sleep pattern pervasively
creates greater stress, causing academic burnout.

That is all for the first main pint, I’ll pass the screen to amani to discuss on the second main
point
