"If You Want To Find The Secrets of The Universe, Think in Terms of Energy, Frequency, and Vibration." - Nikola Tesla

This document contains instructions and questions for a physics exam. It instructs students to write their name, date, and sign a declaration of academic integrity. The exam consists of 3 questions worth a total of 120 points. Question 1 has multiple parts asking students to calculate kinetic energy, potential energy, work done by a force, and work done pulling a backpack. Question 2 asks students to explain harmonic motion and use equations related to forces and motion. Question 3 provides a bonus problem involving a particle on an inclined plane and asks students to draw a free body diagram and calculate the forces of friction and normal force.

1. Answer the following with the procedures in other paper.

15 (a) Calculate the kinetic energy of a body with the following characteristics:
Mass = 5 Kg and velocity = 2 m/s.
15 (b) The kinetic and potential energies of a 6 Kg object freely falling at 5 m/s from a
height of 2 m is: .
A. EP = 75J, Ec = 100J B. EP = 75J, Ec = 75J C. EP = 75J, Ec = 117.6J
D. EP = 117.6J, Ec = 75J
15 (c) Renatta Gass is out with her friends. Misfortune occurs and Renatta and her friends
find themselves getting a workout. They apply a cumulative force of 1080 N to push
the car 218 m to the nearest fuel station. Determine the work done on the car.

15 (d) Hans Full is pulling on a rope to drag his backpack to school across the ice. He
pulls upwards and rightwards with a force of 22.9 Newtons at an angle of 35 degrees
above the horizontal to drag his backpack a horizontal distance of 129 meters to
the right. Determine the work (in Joules) done upon the backpack.

2. Use the figure and the equations F = ma (Second law of Newton) and F = −kx.

20 (a) Explain the harmonic motion simple.

3. A particle of mass 5 Kg rests on a 30◦ inclined plane with the horizontal. A force Fa
of magnitude 30 N acts on the particle in the direction parallel and up the inclined plane.

15 (a) Draw a Free Body Diagram including the particle, the inclined plane and all forces
acting on the particle with their labels.

15 (b) Find the force of friction acting on the particle.

10 (c) Find the normal force exerted by the inclined on the particle.
