A Glimpse at Class Observation in Online Classes
A Glimpse at Class Observation in Online Classes
The idea of stablishing a common idea of what good online teaching is can be challenging, but it
would be one of the best ways to help instructors focus on what they need to learn, improve or
change for online classes. Most teachers have a basic idea of online teaching and the right way to
manage it. However, very few are skilled enough to effectively conduct one, so having a common
criteria, strategy and aim can prove beneficial for all kinds of instructors. This will also allow
observes to know exactly what they must assess and suggest. Since the main goal of peer
observation is to improve the learning process, it is compulsory for educational institutions to set a
clear and definite concept of online teaching.
On the other, very few institutions have stopped to develop this idea as it is time consuming and
current settings will not allow them to set a clear concept of online teaching. This can also be
challenging for teachers who struggle with virtual tools. The whole idea would require training
sessions to instruct different sorts of teachers (for English, kinder garden, kids, teenagers, etc.)
with varying levels of skills.
On a personal level, reading both articles have helped me to think about the concept of online
teaching and the differences with face-to-face teaching. They also have encouraged me to search
for the most effective ways to engage students in a whole new different kind of learning, which
the virtual one. Despite having worked for more than a year, I am still in a learning process myself.
