Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS is a new diagnostic system developed to carry out diagnosis on new
vehicles in the ARGO TRACTORS group (Landini, McCormick and Valpadana)
The system consists of a software part and a hardware part.
The software part involves the use of an application known as
Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS, which guides the user through the
performance of diagnostic functions.

The hardware part, excluding the device on which the application is installed,
consists of a communication card, also known as a VCI, and named Argo DIAG4.
The VCI allows communication between the application and
the vehicle to be diagnosed.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS is used to:
• diagnose and test vehicles to resolve problems associated with the on-board electronics
• allow the user to have access to all ARGO diagnostic activities
• replace faulty components and then reconfigure the components and the vehicle
• generate a report on the operations carried out that is valid for customers as well as acting as an archive of diagnostic
activities carried out by the workshop
INNOVATIVE CHARACTERISTICS
From a diagnostic viewpoint:
• automatic identification of the vehicle model by reading the serial number or type of tractor
(where this function is implemented)
• diagnostic reports

From a user viewpoint:

• offers an intuitive user interface that is easy to use
• is technologically in line with current standards
Distribution of Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS

The new diagnostic tool will be distributed in the version Starter Kit

STARTING UP Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS

When the tablet is turned on, the first screen displayed is the
Windows 8 Metro GUI.
Start up the Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS application by pressing the
appropriate icon.

A series of preliminary operations will be carried out that are

required to start up all the services, including a check on the installed
licence and the presence of updates.

If no problems are identified that cause the program to lock

(e.g.: licence expired …) the application will be started.
INTERFACE STRUCTURE
The interface structure is the same for all screens and is based on a main window, which displays the Title bar
and the Active Page.

Title bar
Allows display of:
• VCI in use
(and rapid access to VCI selection)
• VCI connection status in use
• Language selected for the application (rapid
access to Language selection)
• Rapid access to User guide

Controls are also present to exit the

application and adjust the windows
size to the screen
Active Page
This is the central section of the window where all
the functions and operations being run are displayed
in an interactive manner.

The user interacts with the interactive content of the

page by means of buttons.

The Active Page contains:

1. Navigation bar
Displays the name of the selected
function and the navigation controls that
can be used to switch between the
panels and the functions
2. Control bar 1 2
Displays the possible actions and controls
relating to the procedures and the
function in use
3. Main controls
Further controls may be found in the
lower part of the Active Page.
These allow navigation between the
functions (e.g.: exit diagnosis, return to
main page, forward, back …). 3
HOME PAGE

When the diagnostic program is started up, the first page displayed will be the Home page.

This gives access to all tool functions (diagnosis, maintenance, manuals …)

It is subdivided into two main groups: Diagnostic activities and Support activities

1. Diagnostic activities
Gives access to diagnostic functions: 1 2
- History of vehicles diagnosed
- Automatic search of vehicle
- Manual selection of vehicle

2. Support activities

The following circumstances may arise:

1. Red warning light - USB connection KO and CAN Communication KO

This status occurs when no VCI is identified by the application

2. Amber warning light - USB Connection OK and CAN Communication KO

This status occurs when VCI is identified by the application, but it is not yet communicating with the vehicle

3. Green warning light – USB Communication OK and CAN Communication OK

This status occurs when the VCI is identified by the application and communication is also in place with the vehicle
Updates

The Updates function is an integral part of Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS and guides the user through the simple operations for
downloading, selecting and running the available updates.

The updates concern the following components:

• Diagnostic application
• Diagnostic database
• Service manuals
• VCI firmware

These are classified into Obligatory and Optional and can be carried out only in Online mode.

Licence

The Licence Management system is an integral part of Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS and guides the user through the simple
operations to be carried out to activate and/or renew the licence.

The operation of Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS is dependent upon the user licence and
availability of the VCI Argo DIAG4

The licence allows the new diagnostic system to be used on two machines (tablets) at most for each VCI owned by the user

The licence activation process requires:

• internet connection to access the Web Servers
• possession of a VCI and that it is connected
• possession of a Licence Code (obtained through the ARGO Service portal)

The licence activation operation is also necessary in the following cases:

• changing licence profile
• replacement of the Argo DIAG4 VCI
• replacement of the machine (tablet) on which the diagnostic environment is installed
• replacement of the Argo DIAG4 VCI as well as the tablet on which the diagnostic environment is installed
Licence expired
If the licence is about to expire, within 15 days the user will receive a notification message.

If the licence has expired, all the diagnostic functions will be blocked.

If the licence is missing or has expired, the user can only start the application in order
to update the licence

From the Navigation Bar, it is possible to gain access to the following functions:

1. Licence Activation –
to activate the licence
2
2. Display licences –
to display details of the
licences in use

1
Licence Activation
1
The activation procedure requires the VCI
to be connected to the machine on which
the application has been installed.

It is also necessary to be in possession of a

Licence Code and access to the Internet.

Start the procedure of Licence Activation

The user requests activation of the licence by

completing the Activation Request Form 2

For correct activation of the licence and to

obtain support
(from Diag4ARGO Help Desk),
it is necessary to complete all fields and
enter the Diag4 ARGO TRACTORS end
user data

Once the form has been completed,

continue to finalise the activation
The program will display the outcome of activation

If the conditions for activation are

met, a message appears to indicate
that activation has taken place
successfully

If the new licence is subsequently

activated for the same VCI, this will
replace the previous licence.

Activation can fail in the following cases:

• Licence code invalid
• Licence code already used
• Reached the maximum number of machines (tablets)
that can be registered for the same VCI
• Service not available
• No Internet connection

An appropriate message will then be displayed

This mode does not require the use of the VCI.

Real Mode  Allows diagnosis to be performed on the vehicle and its devices, accessing the available diagnostic functions
through the use of the VCI.

It is possible to switch from one mode to

another by operating directly from the
Title Bar, pressing Demo (or Argo DIAG4).

The VCI Selection menu will then appear.

Select Demo to access Demo Mode.

Alternatively, selecting Argo DIAG4 VCI will
access Real Mode.

This function will not be active if diagnostic

functions are in progress.

It is also possible to set the working mode by accessing Card Management from the Device maintenance menu.
USER SCENARIOS BASED ON THE LICENCE

Diag 4 ARGO TRACTORS allows access to several user scenarios based on the licence in use.

The licence specifies the makes for which the diagnostic functions and the manuals are available:
• Valpadana – represented by the letter V
• Landini – represented by the letter L
• McCormick – represented by the letter M

The combination between user type, type of environment and available makes determines the application
user scenario and may change the appearance of the user interface and the available functions.
It is possible to identify the scenario currently being used by displaying the licence characteristics.
Then access the Display licence panel from Card Management (in device Maintenance) or by selecting the VCI
directly from the Title Bar.

From here, we will display:
