Detailed Lesson Plan

in
Mathematics

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. Define compound events;
B. Solve problems involving compound events; and
C. Actively participate in the discussion of the lesson.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Compound Events
B. References: Mathematics Grade 10 Learner’s Module
C. Materials: Visual Aids and chalk.
III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Motivation

Class, I have 5 envelopes here. These envelops

contain a jumbled letter. The only thing you can do
is to arrange the letter. I will group you into 5. I’ll
give you 4 minutes to do the activity and when
you’re done, clap 3 times and say “done.”

Hint
“OCMPONUD VENTSE”
The first word is its starts with C and end with D.

Compound
The second word start with E and end with S.

Events
B. Presentation
Based on your activity class, what word did
you find out?

Compound events ma’am.

Very good.
C. Discussion

So our topic for today is about “Compound

Events”. So class before we tackle compound
events, we must first define probability. So class,
what is probability? Probability is the likelihood that an event will
occur.

Ver good.
So now class, what is a compound event? Compound events is one which there is more
than one possible outcome.

Very good.

n
P (A) =
N

n – the number of all possible outcomes in the

event.
N – number of all possible outcomes in the
experiment.
Take note that 0<P<1

For example:

1. A visitor will arrive next week, what is the 2. P (A) =

than one possible outcome.

D. Generalization
What is compound event again class?
Probability is the likelihood that an event will
occur.

Compound events is one which there is more

than one possible outcome.

E. Application
1. In a deck of 52 cards, what is the probability of
drawing:

a. an ace
b. a red royal card
n
c. a numbered card P (A) =
N
d. a queen of hearts 1
P (A) =
e. a queen or king 365
f. not a diamond

2. A bucket contains 5 red balls, 3 red blue and 6

brown. What is the probability of obtaining

a. brown balls
b. red and brown balls

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Answer the following with complete solution.

correct answer in a single item?

2. A number is chosen from integer 1 to 15. Find the probability of choosing a

a. multiple of 3
b. two digit number
c. number greater than 5 but less than 11

3. A committee of 2 is selected from a group consisting of 5 people Juan, Dick, Mary Paul and
Jane, what is the probability

a. both members are male

b. the committee consists of a male and a female

4. Among 100 new cars delivered, 75 have power windows, 85 ave dual airbags, 80 have ABS
brakes, 60 have power windows and ABS brakes, 70 have dual airbags and ABS brakes, 65 have
power windows and dual airbags and 55 have all three. Compute the probability that a car
selected at a random has the following equipment:

a/ only dual airbags

b. at least two of the three options
c. exactly two of the three options
d. have power windows but not ABS brakes and dual airbags
e. no ABS brakes nor dual airbags
