Part 1 Reading and Writing
Read the article about the writer Janice Everett. For each question, choose the correct answer A, B
or C.
Interview with Janice Everette, author
Janice Everett is a very talented author. She wrote her first book when was 22. A year later, she wrote
two more books. She is now 25 and she has just finished her seventh book!
Janice has a busy life. Yesterday morning, she was chatting to her fans in Boyle’s Bookshop. In the
afternoon, I interviewed her at the Regent’s Café near her hotel. There were a lot of people there, but
Janice was sitting on her own, ordering coffee. She was wearing jeans, a checked shirt and
a cardigan. She looked like a teenager with her long hair and no make-up.
I asked Janice what she was like as a student. She said she was a lazy student at school, but she was
good at History and English. She also liked writing stories and she won first prize in a short story
competition.
When she finished school, she didn’t go to university. She got a job as a shop assistant, but she hated
it. Then she got a job as a tour guide. After that, she worked in an architect’s office, but she was bored
there. She wrote short stories in the evenings, for fun. She read the stories to her little cousins and they
loved them. Then she wrote her first book, The Lonely Tree.
Children loved this wonderful adventure novel, and adults loved it too. Her second book was a fantasy
novel. Now Janice wants to write a historical novel about Spain in 1492. ‘I’ve visited Spain and I’ve
learned a little Spanish. It will be an interesting book to write,’ she says.
Good luck with the book, Janice!
