TIMELINE OF ACTIONS REQUIRED BY “SAFE AND RESPECTFUL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS”
Nevada Revised Statutes §§ 388.121 et seq.
Effective July 1, 2015
SCHOOL DAY 1 - Date:
Teacher, administrator, principal, coach, other staff member, who witnesses or receives information about violation reports to principal or designee as
soon as practicable, but not later than a time during the same day
Principal/designee immediately takes necessary action to stop bullying/cyber-bullying and ensure safety and well-being of reported victim(s)
Principal/designee begins investigation – contacts parents involved (see “Parent conversation note”), interviews all parties, (Do NOT attempt peer
mediation or conflict resolution placing victim & perpetrator together with bullying incidences during the investigation)
If report is received before end of school hours on school day, principal/designee notifies parent/guardian of each reported aggressor and each reported
victim by 6 p.m. on the day the report is received
If report received after school hours, or on non-school day, principal/designee notifies parent/guardian of each reported aggressor and each reported
victim by 6 p.m. on the next school day
o To extent information available, principal/designee provides list of any resources that may be available in community to assist pupil (but
principal, designee, or any employee of school or district is not responsible for providing such resources or ensuring pupil receives such
resources)
Investigator Notes:

o Must interview all parents/guardians who were notified – see “Parent conversation note”
Investigation must be completed no later than 2 school days after receiving report (investigation completed on SCHOOL DAY 3)
o One additional day is allowed if principal/designee has made good faith effort, but a person who needs to be interviewed is not available
(investigation completed on SCHOOL DAY 4)
o Do not rush investigation to meet timeline. We’re better off taking extra days to investigate a serious matter versus conducting an inadequate
investigation. Please be thorough in your process. More serious issues will take time. Keep deputy supt appraised when investigation takes
longer than timeline.
Principal/designee writes report

take the form of a report of discipline imposed, as allowed by district policy)

SCHOOL DAY 4 Date: (possibly Day 5 Date: )
Subject to FERPA, report must be “made available” not later than 24 hours after completion (SCHOOL DAY 4 or SCHOOL DAY 5, as applicable), to all
parents/guardians who were notified. If a request is made for a copy of the report, contact the deputy superintendent to review a report that complies
with FERPA (NOTE: FERPA requires parent consent prior to disclosure of personally identifiable information in a student’s education record and these
reports will likely be education reports of the students involved as aggressors or victims. FERPA will significantly limit what can be said, to whom, since
information is “personally identifiable” if a reader has sufficient information to discern who is referred to, even if redacted.)
