Assignment 2: TESL 1004
Index No: 9133/2020/29
Name: W.L.R.C. Lekamge Write 300 words, how you think the general public should respond to language impairment? You must express your own views on this. Language impairments are disorders of language that obstruct towards proper communication, harmfully affect routine and effectiveness in the student’s usual learning atmosphere, and consequence in the urge for exceptional student education. A language impairment can be defined as a disorder in one or more of the basic learning processes tangled in accepting or in utilizing spoken or written language. The language impairment can be apparent in major complications distressing listening comprehension, oral expression, social interaction, reading, writing, or spelling. A language impairment is not mainly a result of influences associated with chronological age, gender, culture, ethnicity, or limited English proficiency. This disorder should not be undermined. Because it is only one aspect of communication and those kids or adults who are suffering from such disorders are very much talented in other aspects and they tend to be more creative than normal people. Thus according to my perspective the society should not deny them. There are more than enough evidence to prove that those people with language impairments have developed their abilities in many other fields. For example Marylin Monroe, Sam Niell, Winton Churchill (“Mr.Churchill is more often fighting himself than his enemies”) and Joe Biden can be taken. These people have engraved their existence within the human history in a positive manner even with several kinds of language impairments. Thus what I suggest is as a lecturer or as a teacher, if you ever find out such student in front of you, never ignore or bully him because one day he/she will have higher possibility to engrave his name for something unique. Whatever the reason, the society should value and respect each and every human being whether they are normal or not.
