Illustrate Congruent Triangle (M8GE-IIId-1) - Learning Activity Sheets

This document provides instructions and exercises for students to learn about and illustrate triangle congruence. It defines triangle congruence as when two triangles have the same shape and size, meaning their corresponding angles are congruent and corresponding sides are congruent. The exercises include identifying whether pairs of triangles are congruent or not, naming congruent triangles by matching corresponding parts, completing congruence statements, and listing corresponding sides and angles of congruent triangles. The goal is for students to master illustrating triangle congruence.

Learning Activity Sheets

ILLUSTRATE TRIANGLE CONGRUENCE

I. Background Information for Learners

This activity sheet serves as a self-learning guide for the learners. It facilitates lesson
comprehension as it specifically aims for students’ mastery on illustrating triangle congruence.
The adjoining figures below show two congruent triangles. If ∆ MAN is made to coincide
with ∆ DEF, such that the vertices ∆ MAN fit exactly over the vertices of ∆ DEF in symbol:
M ⟷ D, A ⟷ E, and N ⟷ F
(M ⟷ D is read as “vertex M corresponds to vertex D”, and so forth.)
Since each vertex of one triangle corresponds to a vertex of the other triangles then the
sides and angles of two triangles correspond.

Corresponding Angles Corresponding Sides

∠ 𝑀 ⟷ ∠𝐷 ̅̅̅̅̅
𝑀𝐴 ⟷ ̅̅̅̅
𝐷𝐸

∠ 𝐴 ⟷ ∠𝐸 ̅̅̅̅ ̅̅̅̅
𝐴𝑁 ⟷𝐸𝐹

∠ 𝑁 ⟷ ∠𝐹 ̅̅̅̅̅
𝑁𝑀 ⟷𝐹𝐷̅̅̅̅
∆ MAN ≌ ∆ DEF

If the corresponding parts of ∆ MAN and ∆ DEF coincide, then the two triangles are
congruent. In symbol, ∆ MAN ≌ ∆ DEF. This means that the corresponding angles are congruent
namely: ∠ 𝑀 ≌ ∠𝐷, ∠ 𝐴 ≌ ∠𝐸, ∠ 𝑁 ≌ ∠𝐹 and the corresponding sides are congruent namely:
̅̅̅̅̅ 𝐷𝐸 , ̅̅̅̅
𝑀𝐴 ≌ ̅̅̅̅ 𝐴𝑁 ≌ ̅̅̅̅
𝐸𝐹 , and ̅̅̅̅̅
𝑁𝑀 ≌ ̅̅̅̅
𝐹𝐷. When referring to congruent triangles, name their
corresponding vertices in the same order.
Two triangles are congruent if and only if their vertices can be paired so that the
corresponding sides are congruent and corresponding angles are congruent. It is represented by
the symbol of ≌. We used the same marking to indicate corresponding congruent parts.
