STE- Grade 8
Second Quarter/ Week 3 / Day 1
In this lesson, you will be able to know that within the triangle itself, there exists
relationships between and among parts like the angles of a triangle, such that the
measure of one angle can be determined in terms of the other.
TRY TO DISCOVER!
Activity 1:
̅̅̅̅ .
Consider triangle ABC. Draw a line through B parallel to 𝐴𝐶
Activity 2:
Consider triangle MIX. Extend ̅̅̅̅̅
𝑀𝑋 of ⊿𝑀𝐼𝑋 to make ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝑀𝐷. Extend ̅̅̅
𝐼𝑋 of ⊿𝑀𝐼𝑋 to make ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝐼𝐸.
Since ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝑋𝑀 and ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝑋𝐷 are opposite rays, then ∠1 and ∠4 form a linear pair. By the Linear Pair
Postulate, ∠1 a nd ∠4 are supplementary. Angle 4 is adjacent to and a supplement of angle 1.
In ⊿𝑀𝐼𝑋, angles 1 , 2 and 3 are the interior angles while 4 and 5 are exterior angles. Angle
4 is adjacent to and a supplement of angle 1. Angle 5 is also adjacent to and a supplement of
angle 1. We say that angles 2 and 3 are the remote inerior angles corresponding to the exterior
angles 4 and 5.
➢ Remote interior angles of a triangle are the interior angles not adjacent to the given
exterior angle.
➢ The measure of an exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the measures of
the two remote interior angles of the triangle.
