Design a Game Design Brief

Client Local Carnival Planning Committee

Target Carnival attendee of wide-ranging ages and abilities

Consumer
Designer(s) ● Josiah Lieb, Colby Bealing, Jonah Frazier, Trenton Erickson

Problem ● Carnivals are so fun because they have games. Though sometimes they
Statement need games that are different then others and are just as fun to play so then
(restate in people will actually play them.

Design ● Design a functional ping pong launcher and target that will work as a game
Statement for a carnival and will be fun to play.

Criteria 1. The target game board must be three-dimensional and include a hole.
2. The grand prize target hole must allow a 1.5” x 1.5” x 0.5” beanbag to fall
How are the through.
listed criteria 3. Beanbags that fall through a hole should be easy to retrieve by the game
measurable? attendant in less than 30 seconds.
4. At least 3 percent, but no more than 5 percent, of all launches should result
in a grand prize winner.
5. Your game should be safe to play for all users.

Constraints 1. The size of the game booth is 3 ft (width) x 10 ft (length).

2. The maximum size of the game board is 20” x 30”.
How are the 3. The booth must accommodate both a launch device and game target board
listed within its footprint.
constraints 4. A design must be submitted for critical review by your launch device team by
measurable? February 24 2021.
5. [Time] A proposal must be submitted to the carnival planning committee by
February 24 2021.

Project (100 pts): Yes Kind of... No

1. Are all established project criteria met? 2 0
2. Are all established project constraints met? 2 1 0
3. Is the concept/theme appropriate? – Will the target client(s), 2 1 0
consumer(s), and/or user(s) approve? (Is it creative/original…?)
4. Is the presentation/project completed with the utmost 2 1 0
attention paid to overall organization, understanding and professionalism?
5. Is the physical project completed with the utmost 2 1 0
attention paid to durability, quality and craftsmanship?
Total =85/100%
Final Score = Advanced, Proficient, Average, Needs Improvement, or Incomplete??? Why?
We did good things on the project but we could of done a better job on meeting constraints and having
our project look good.

Justify your teams final score here:

● We think it would be around an 85 percent because most of the things we did were good it’s just
we couldn’t hit some of the constraints and we couldn’t make our project look perfect due to time.

Presentation (100 pts):  Advanced Proficient Average Basic Incomplete

1. Define the Problem 4 3 2 1 0

a. Completed Design Brief
2. Generate Concepts 4 3 2 1 0

7. Completed Team Project Reflection Questions 4 3 2 1 0

Total =80/ 100%
Final Score = Advanced, Proficient, Average, Needs Improvement, or Incomplete??? Why?
Because we did things well but could have done them way better.

Justify your teams final score here:

● Once again we were thinking our score would be around an 80 because
we did most things well but there could be alot we could have done better
and make it look better if we would have had more time to complete it.

Project Team Reflection:

As a team, reflect and answer the following prompts:

1. How did previous work iterating your launch device impact your design decisions?
○ Previous work iterating our launch device impacted our design decisions because since
we knew where our launch device launched most of the time we could figure out where
to put our target.

2. How do models (graphical, physical, mathematical) play an important role in the engineering
design process?
○ Models play an important role in the engineering design process because when you
have a model you can see for example the data you collected and it will help make you
understand better.

3. Describe how you managed your time on this project. Did you use time effectively? What might
you do differently on the next project?
○ I think we managed our time well on this project, though we could have done it way
better. What we will do differently next project is to use our time more wisely and try to
stay ahead of things.
